I want to prepare a state return.
When you use TurboTax the information flows from the federal return to the state return. You cannot use TT to prepare a "stand alone" state return. Try going to your state's tax website to see if you can file there.

Does anyone know how to reach a person if we believe our returns may have been lost in the mail? The numbers listed on IRS site just loop you around an automated system and don't recognize what you are asking for when you request a person. We had to mail due to one form which NO tax filing system currently offers. I usually NEVER file as late as we did and do not know the last time I had to mail other than my kids. We mailed my son's (because he only paid $5 to get back) and ours. He got his return, ours do not even show as received and it has been 6 weeks since mailing.

"I do not believe that the TSP is following 25 CFR Section1.401(c)(2)(i) IRS rules for calculating RMDs for participants who have a sole beneficiary spouse that is 10 years or more younger." That is true, but nothing in the tax code limits the amount that the TSP can force you to take out. As Bsch4477 said, you have 60 days to roll over the amount distributed that is in excess of the true RMD amount based on your circumstances. As I said previously, when TurboTax asks the amount that you were required to take from the TSP, enter no more than the amount that you determined from the Joint and Last Survivor Life Expectancy table so that TurboTax does not block you from reporting the portion rolled over.

That paragraph only addresses a contribution returned before the due date of the tax return, the contribution made for 2024 in this case. Excess contribution distributed after the due date of the tax return for the year for which the contribution was made is not corrected until the year of the distribution, in this case 2025 for the 2021, 2022 and 2023 excess contributions.

I live in PA and own a 2nd property in NJ. I have owned the property for 12 years and have never rented it. I am looking to sell the property and am trying to get information about how this will affect my taxes. What taxes must i claim as a non-resident in NJ? Will i need to file a NJ tax return in addition to my PA return? Will any taxes be paid at closing? Thank you

Look at your Form 1040 on Line 38. If there is not an estimated tax penalty entered then you will not have access to Form 2210 in the TurboTax program.

The proposed solution does not enable access to Form 2210. It says: No underpayment penalty. Based on the entries you don't have a penalty for underpayment of estimated taxes. Do you want to review the estimated taxes topic. On selecting Yes to this, TurboTax shows the question: Farmers and Fishers Was at least two-thirds of your gross income in 2024 or 2024 from farming of fishing? Possible Penalty Exception Since you 2023 tax liability was zero you might be able to avoid some or all of a penalty this year if you can answer yes to both of these questions. Did your 2023 return cover a full 12-month period? Or, if you didn't file last year, would it have covered 12 months had you filed? Were you a U.S. citizen or resident in 2023? When I answer Yes to both questions it loops back to the first screen: No underpayment penalty. Clearly there is a mistake in either TurboTax calculations of underpayment penalty or IRS's calculation. Please advise how to handle this problem.

TT likely determined you didn't have a penalty based on the info it's been given. You need to have paid by withholding or estimated tax during the year, the smaller of 100% of 2023 tax (110% if AGI > 150k) or 90% of 2024 tax. I'm guessing if you calculate this amount in your case you will find no penalty was due. If you are using desktop TT in forms mode you can double click thru line 38 on Form 1040 and again on the worksheet to bring up the Form 2210 calculation. Otherwise, pls post more details and maybe someone here can help further.

Yeah when I look at my transcripts for my returns it only currently goes up to 2023 so it looks like I'm still waiting. The other thing is that the check is cashed I only show my estimated tax payment showing in my Details By Year and not my payment for owed tax. Though I haven't owed in a while so not sure how that shows up. Still would like to speak to someone that can confirm for sure they at least have the return and it is waiting to be processed.

I have the same problem with turbo tax saying my social security was not taxable. I don't ever recall turbo tax asking that question, and if they did they should have gathered the information about what country you lived in in 2025. I didn't catch this until I got a notice from the IRS that they were changing my refund from 8,224 to now owing 1, 029 dollars. This is crazy and not acceptable. Turbo Tax should at least verify during the final check if this is true or not. NOT ACCEPTABLE. My 2023 Taxes shows the yes and no fields blank. How did that work. And years before that, that specific question about living in another county never appears. Seems you should not have a US address and a Foreign address. Bad Programming!

Wait until your original return has been fully processed before you amend, and make sure you have saved a pdf of the original return before you amend. (If you do not save it as a pdf, the amended return will overwrite the original, and the original will be lost forever)
See this TurboTax support FAQ for amending a tax return -

Do not expect quick results from amending. It can take four months or more for the IRS to process an amended return.

Q. When I donate to a Donor advised fund (DAF), will this reduce my AGI (line 11 of form 1040) if my donation is above standard deduction?
A. No.
Q. When I donate to a DAF, will this reduce my taxable income (line 15 of form 1040) if my donation is above standard deduction?
A. Yes, but only by the amount that your total itemized deductions exceed the standard deduction.
Q. When I donate to a charity thru my DAF, will this reduce my taxable income if my donation is above standard deduction.
A. No. You get an itemized deduction when you put money (or securities) into a DAF. You do not get another deduction when you direct the DAF to actually send money to a charity.

Not sure why you think @fanfare's reply was incorrect. When you file by mail, it can take three or four weeks after you mail your return before a human at the IRS even opens the envelope. Once it has been received and opened, it will be entered into the system and you can start to track your refund on the IRS refund site.
You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount (line 35a of your 2024 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:

If you used online TurboTax, your tax returns and the worksheets are stored in your online account. TurboTax does not have copies or images of your tax documents like your W-2's or 1099's etc. Only the information that was entered from those documents is shown on the worksheets. It is your responsibility to keep copies of your tax documents like W-2's, 1099's, 1098's etc. If you used desktop download software, the returns are stored on your own hard drive; they are not stored online.
You have to access your own account and/or print it for yourself using exactly the same account and user ID that you used when you prepared the return.

SAVE YOUR TAX RETURNS !
EVERY year before mid-October you should save a copy of your tax return as a pdf and print a copy of it for your records. That way you will not be searching online frantically when you need it for a lender, FAFSA forms, your next tax return, etc.
