Hello, I'm stuck at this step while continuing to finish my federal taxes. EIN Is this because I reported some amount in the 1099-MISC section? I received points from my credit card for referring a friend (which is not the usual sign-on bonus). Though I didn't receive any 1099-MISC from my bank as the amount is less $600, I did however report it in the 1099-MISC section to avoid any issues. I'm not self-employed and I do not own a business. What is the best option I have? Do I need to delete the 1099-MISC section?

There are income limitations to contributing directly to a Roth IRA. If you are single and your modified AGI is over $161,000, then you're ineligible to contribute directly to a Roth IRA. Please reference this IRS document. If you have an excess contribution, you can withdraw it by 4/15 to avoid the penalty (make sure you also withdraw any earning on the contribution). Or, you could contact Vanguard to recharacterized this a traditional IRA. See: What if I made an excess Roth IRA contribution because my income is too high?

Hi PatriciaV - IDC in my case is for oil wells. California allows IDC deduction only for geothermal wells. So AMT is not applicable in my case. In addition to K-1, I will add an income adjustment on California Schedule CA so that IDC deduction from 1040 is not included in California return. Thanks!

If they didn't issue you a form 1099-MISC or 1099-NEC, I suggest you report it as "other income". To report other income with a Form 1099-MISC:
In the Wages & Income section, under "Your income and expenses"
Scroll down to "Less Common Income Home sale, cancelled debt....etc."
Scroll to the bottom and select "Miscellaneous Income, 1099-A, 1099-C"
Scroll to the bottom and select "Other reportable income"
Answer Yes
Enter the income you received that isn't reported on a Form 1099-MISC or 1099-NEC.

If you are using the desktop software, click on Forms, in the upper right hand corner, to access all of your tax forms. You can not enter data directly on forms if you are using TurboTax Online; you will need to go through the interview to make changes to your tax return.
If you want to view your forms in TurboTax Online, use the Print Center found in the Tools menu. You can preview Form 1040 and Schedules 1-3 without going through the Print Center. Preview Form 1040 in TurboTax Online.
Use Forms Mode if you are using the desktop software.

You can import from more than one financial institution. However, if your account at Bank A is closed, you no longer have a Sign In for that account.
From your electronic copies, you can enter a one-line summary total for 1099-INT/DIV's.
For 1099-B's, here's How to Enter a Summary in Lieu of Individual Transactions. This is perfectly acceptable, since the IRS already has copies of your 1099's.
If you're using TurboTax Online, you can attach a PDF copy of your 1099-B's. Choose 'summary' and you'll come to that screen.

When asked, in the personal info section, if you earned income in another state, you should answer no. The fine print on that page tells you to answer no due to the reciprocity agreement between OH & KY. If you answered yes, TurboTax is going to prompt you to do a KY return. If you didn’t have KY withholding you don’t need to do a KY return.
The reciprocity agreement does not apply to local city and county taxes. You you are also not entitled to a refund of any KY county city withholding (box19 on your W-2), unless there was an error in the amount. But, if you live in an Ohio city with an income tax, they may give you a credit or partial credit for the KY local tax withheld. Many do. You need to check with your city.

As I said, a self-employed retirement contribution is NOT a business expense. It does not go on Schedule C. It is a personal, above-the-line deduction that reduces AGI. It does not reduce net profit. If marking the Maximize box for a SEP contribution results in a maximum employer contribution of $13,088, apparently your net earnings from self-employment are only $65,440. Net earnings are net profit minus the deductible portion of self-employment taxes. (That would imply that your net profit is somewhere between $65,440 and $70,415, depending on the deductible amount of self-employment taxes.) 20% of $65,440 results in a maximum employer contribution of $13,088.

Check the email address on the screen that says "Next, let's verify your email". If your email is right, check your spam or junk folders. in case the email accidentally got sorted incorrectly by your email provider. If your email isn't there, there may be a delay with your email provider.
If you are having an issue signing into your TurboTax account here are a few things you can try:
Check all email addresses you might've used to sign up for your account.
Request a new verification code by selecting I didn't get a text, I didn't get an email, or I didn't get a phone call on the sign-in page.
