@robertcampbellfamily the rule is that both endpoints of the travel must be a business location. Your customers are your business location. Your office is your business location. You home is not a business location (assuming no home office). so travel from home to a business location (or the reverse) is commuting. Travel from one business location to another is business travel since both end points are business locations.

I own 2 separate businesses. One is in Georgia where I reside and one is in California which I visit frequently to manage the business. I use Turbo Tax. I only want to show the income earned in Georgia on the Georgia return and the same for California, but it looks like Turbo Tax is reporting "all" income on both state returns. Any advice on how to segregrate the returns? Thanks, Darrell

You can type estimates paid in the search box at the top of your return and click Find and it will give you a link to Jump To the screen where you enter Extension Payments. To enter the amount you paid with an extension (including state extension) go to Federal Taxes (or Personal Tab for desktop H&B version) Deductions and Credits Then scroll way down to Estimates and Other Taxes Paid Other Income Taxes - Click the Start or Update button Next page second section Payments with Extension Either Visit All or Click Start or Update by the extension you paid For 2024 Federal Extension payments should be on schedule 3 line 10. And go to 1040 line 31. Line 32 is the total of lines 27-31.

Ok , I made a contribution to my Roth IRA for 2022 , of $700. That I was not supposed to make, as I did not have enough income on a W2 , or 1099 misc. for that year. I am over 59.5 years old ,( now 62 yrs.) & have had the Roth for more than 5 years. In November of 2024, I removed this excess contribution. My broker sent me a 2024 1099 R , with the gross distribution box 1 = $700. they probably would not calculate any earnings, because too much time had gone by.... In box 7 there is a Q -for a "qualified distribution." From what I have been reading, because of my age & the age of the Roth account I am allowed to take money out. So my question is : Do I need to file an amended tax return for 2022 , or not ?

Did you e-file your tax return and was it accepted? Only the IRS and your State control when and if a Federal or State tax refund is Approved and Issued.
You complete your tax return by finishing all 3 Steps in the File section. In Step 3, to e-file your tax return, you must click on the large button labeled "Transmit my returns now".
After completing the File section and e-filing your tax return you will receive two emails from TurboTax. The first email when your tax return was transmitted and the second email when the tax return has either been accepted or rejected.
Note - Once a tax return has been Accepted by the IRS or a State, TurboTax receives no further information concerning the tax return or the status of any tax refund. Only the taxpayer listed on the tax return can obtain the status of a tax refund or a tax return.
To check the status of an e-filed return, open up your desktop product or log into your TurboTax Online Account. You can find your status within the TurboTax product. If accepted by the IRS use the federal tax refund website to check the refund status - https://www.irs.gov/refunds
If accepted by the state use this TurboTax support FAQ to check the state tax refund status - https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/track-state-refund/L3jgO8PGs_...
After the tax return has been Accepted by the IRS (meaning only that they received the return) it will be in the Processing mode until the tax refund has been Approved and then an Issue Date will be available on the IRS website. See this IRS website for federal tax refund FAQ's - https://www.irs.gov/refunds/tax-season-refund-frequently-asked-questions
Call the IRS: 1-800-829-1040 hours 7 AM - 7 PM local time Monday-Friday When calling the IRS do NOT choose the first option re: "Refund", or it will send you to an automated phone line. So after first choosing your language, then do NOT choose Option 1 (refund info). Choose option 2 for "personal income tax" instead. Then press 1 for "form, tax history, or payment". Then press 3 "for all other questions." Then press 2 "for all other questions." - When it asks you to enter your SSN or EIN to access your account information, don't enter anything. - After it asks twice, you will get another menu.
Press 2 for personal or individual tax questions. Then press 3 for all other inquiries It should then transfer you to an agent.

TurboTax does not have a copy of the W-2 or Form 1099. It would have a Form W-2 Wage and Tax Statement that included the tax data from the forms that were entered. The forms would be included in the PDF of the tax return in the tax year the return was completed.
Copies of a Form 1099 would have to obtained from the issuer of the form.

Assuming that you don’t have a home office, you can deduct mileage from one job to another but not from home to the first job or from the last job to home.

@Hal_Al what is the current process for reporting self employment income? I do not see the "business" section you mention I pay my mother 12,000 annually for childcare in her home. I have claimed the dependent care credit and entered her SSN and name on my end. She was previously filing as other misc income with HSH designation on 1040 but now realized that she is not gaining any credits towards social security. From what I have gathered in this thread, she should report what I pay her as self employment schedule C? is this correct? Thank you!

If the brokerage allows you to specify an amount or percentage of tax to be withheld from the IRA distribution, you could have enough withheld to cover the tax on all of your other income as well as the IRA distribution. That would eliminate the need to deal with the W-4P that you asked about in another question. Have enough withheld from the IRA distribution to cover your total tax for the year.
