I am happy to report that we were able to get developers to update this in the software.    If you are using the desktop software, please check for updates and ensure the calculation is correct before filing.  Our updates are often "rolling" updates and it may take a day or two to reach you.  If you are using online TurboTax, we expect this to be resolved for most users by morning.  You may need to clear cache and cookies to see changes.   Thank you for your patience and for assisting us with resolving this issue by providing your diagnostic file. @babstax

Thank you. The error message on the 1099-INT field 17, states: "Must be greater than $0. Or, if your form shows $0, clear boxes 15-17." Your advice makes sense to me, but the error is confusing as adding a $0, would in prompt clearing 15-17 per the message?

Yes, you can  choose how it is allocated. However, you will have to do a little math. Understand the 1098-T is an informational form and not considered an accurate tax form. The 1099-Q is accurate but the IRS does not want to deal with it unless taxed.   Since one 1099-Q went completely to qualified expenses, you will need to leave it out to tax the correct form. IRS Publication 970, Tax Benefits for Education states that nontaxable distributions should not be entered. You can enter the 1099-Q that you want to be taxable. Removed the room and board costs along with other educational expenses were covered by the 1099-Q not used.   For example: 1099-Q #1 $15,000 covered room and board and $1k of education expenses 1099-Q #2 $20,000 covered tuition Steps to take: Do not enter 1099-Q #1 since it is not taxable and is not the one you want to make taxable. Tuck it in your tax folder. Enter 1099-Q #2 first. Next, enter 1098-T. with alterations. Since Box 1 tuition had $1k covered by other Q, subtract $1k from box 1. Do not enter room and board since already covered by other Q.  Enter the remaining information for you to claim $4k as education expenses and $4k taxable.

Thanks for your speedy reply. Neither "I'll choose what I work on" nor "Estimates and Other Taxes Paid" are choices that are available to select.  But I found it buried under "Other Deductible Expenses" Seems like with all the obscure questions the program asks, this one should be included.

Check your Internet connection. A hardwired connection works best. If you are using a VPN, try turning it off and connecting directly through your internet provider. You might also try logging out of TurboTax, restarting your device, and logging in again. Please see here for the current system requirements for TurboTax Online. The refund meter at the top of the screen may be showing a different number than would match your state return entries because it is lagging behind your entries on your return. If you still have another state return to prepare, this could also account for the discrepancy.    It looks like you have tried several other troubleshooting steps already that typically resolve the issue of the State return not having the Federal information in it. If you continue to experience the same problem after following the troubleshooting steps, please contact TurboTax customer support for further assistance.

***Solution*** that worked for me: (MacOS 26.3.1, Apple M1 Pro silicon) After TT2025 found the file, it would not open it. I quit TT2025 Desktop Standard. I double clicked the .tax2024 file causing TT2024 to open, update itself, require a restart, then it (TT2024) opened the file. I quit TT2024 and clicked on regress/don't-save-changes. ***THE KEY: Next I right clicked on the .tax2024 file and selected "Open With" and selected Turbotax 2025. It worked, TT2025 Desktop Standard edition opened with the imported information. I verified this by going to the "Let's review Your Info from Last Year" section and name/ssn/etc. info was there.

If Box 17 on your Form 1099-INT is blank (not zero) and Boxes 15 and 16 show California details, don't clear Boxes 15 and 16. Instead, enter a zero (0) in Box 17 for the California state tax withheld amount. This usually resolves the error because Box 17 expects a numeric value, even if no state tax was withheld. Make sure Boxes 15 and 16 match your state and state identification number as shown on your 1099-INT.

Where are you looking for this? Is it on the screen in the Maryland interview with the title of "Tell Us Your Maryland Information"?   Also, are you using TurboTax Online or TurboTax Desktop?   I see Baltimore City as an option in both places, but maybe we are looking in two different places.

Why hasn't there been a response to this? My expert's nearly an hour late for my appointment, too. No communication otherwise.
