1. Let me clarify that. There are two points:
when you buy the credit - not paying state tax and no federal deduction
when you use the credit, that is paying state tax and is a federal deduction for SALT
2. Yes, the credit reduces your state tax liability.
3. Yes. When you purchase the state credit, you have bought something. In this case, an intangible asset. What you paid for the credit, say $9,000 for a $10,000 credit means you have $1,000 capital gain to report on your federal return. The capital gain is recognized the year that you apply the credit to your state return, not the year purchased. If the credit was generated in 2025, you have 3 years to use the credit. If it was generated before 2025, you have 5 years to use the credit.

Only the IRS can tell you. TurboTax gets no information after you file your tax return. What does it say on the IRS refund site?
You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount (line 35a of your 2024 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:

Yes, someone from the Help team eventually told me the problem was supposed to be fixed by end-of-day yesterday (Wed) but I just attempted to submit my e-file again this morning at 8am and got the same message. This is incredibly frustrating and is making me not want to use TurboTax at all.

If renting to a relative, it's best to ensure that the relative is paying a monthly rent that is at least the Fair Market Value in the area. If so, the expenses can be deducted against the rental income, including depreciation of the rental home. Be sure to claim all expenses related to the home that you pay out your own pocket - mortgage interest, property taxes, utilities, repairs, cleaning and maintenance, etc. - and especially depreciation. It's very important to claim depreciation on the rented property as the amount of depreciation will need to be recaptured when you sell the property regardless of whether or not you claimed depreciation.

If you are age 65 or older and meet the requirement, the additional deduction is automatically added on your federal tax return.
Standard deductions for 2025
Single - $15.750 add $2,000 if age 65 or older Married Filing Separately - $15,750 add $1,600 if age 65 or older Married Filing Jointly - $31,500 add $1,600 for each spouse age 65 or older Head of Household - $23,625 add $2,000 if age 65 or older
New Bonus Standard Deduction (OBBB): An additional $6,000 deduction for taxpayers 65 and older. This is per eligible individual, meaning a married couple both over 65 could get $12,000. Important: This bonus deduction is temporary, lasting from 2025 through 2028. Income limitations: It phases out for taxpayers with modified adjusted gross income over $75,000 for single filers and $150,000 for joint filers.
The amount is calculated on Schedule 1-A, Part V, with that amount flowing to Form 1040 Line 13b
Look at your Form 1040 -
You can view your Form 1040 plus Schedules 1, 2 and 3 at any time using the online editions. Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the online program screen. Click on Tools. Click on View Tax Summary. Click on Preview my 1040 on the left side of the screen.

The IRS just opened on January 26 to accept/reject e-files. Millions of e-files been waiting on the servers in "pending." Start watching your emails now that the IRS is open. Many e-files are on the servers so it could still take a day or two. The IRS cannot accept all of them at the same time.
DID YOU E-FILE?
Did you e-file? Did you go through all three steps of the FILE section and click a big orange button that said “Transmit my returns now?”
When you e-file your return you will get two emails from TurboTax. The first one will say your return has been transmitted; the second one will tell you the IRS has accepted or rejected your federal e-file. If you filed a state return, there will be a third email (usually a day or two later) that tells you if the state e-file was accepted or rejected.
Check your e-file status:

In TurboTax, I enter a single taxpayer with one child dependent who qualifies as a Head of Household on the Federal tax return.
I am able to file as Head of Household on the Georgia state income tax return. I am not asked a question about a spouse.
Review personal information reported under My Info including the dependent information and qualification for Head of Household.
yesterday
If you are not claiming a qualified dependent it will be impossible for you to file as HOH. Make sure you have deleted dependents from MY INFO if they transferred over from last year.

When I keyed in my W2 to the TurboTax Desktop for 2025 it showed me an error. Said that my employer withheld too much for SS and I need to contact them for a refund and revised W2. My wages were $83,758.40, employer withheld 6.25 of that or $5,193.02. TurboTax told me it should have been $5,181.86 and I need to contact my employer for a $11.16 refund and revised W2. I contacted my employer and they said no that the withholding should be 6.2% and the $5,193.02 is correct. Called TurboTax and was told there were errors and to keep updating..... WHAT SHOULD I DO???
