I homeschool my high school children and use university courses to supplement. Thus, I have a 1098-T. I've heard a rumor from other families that there is a limit to the number f years I can claim the tuition on a 1098-T and shouldn't waste it on pre-co

Yes, there is some truth to that. But, it should not affect you. The most generous education credit, the American Opportunity Tax Credit (AOTC) is limited to being claimed 4 times (4 tax years). However, the AOTC is not eligible for college courses taken by High school students.

You are eligible for either the Lifetime Learning Credit (LLC) or the Tuition & Fees Deduction (TFD). There is no limit to how many times they can be claimed.
