As you walk through the personal info section of TurboTax you will be asked your name, address, social security number, marital status and many other questions. Answer them all accurately. Then you will be asked to enter your dependents, including their social security numbers and how long they lived with you and if they paid more than half of their own living expenses along with several other questions. Read each question and answer accurately.
You will then need to enter your income. TurboTax will guide you through all the questions you need to answer similar to sitting down with someone across the desk, but instead you are reading the questions for yourself. The program will guide you through your available credits and deductions based on your answers to get you the best tax scenario available to you.
You "say mom with 2 kids claiming 1".
Be advised that there is a special rule in the case of divorced & separated (including never married) parents. When the non-custodial parent is claiming the child as a dependent/exemption/child tax credit; the custodial parent is still allowed to claim the same child for Earned Income Credit, Head of Household filing status, and day care credit. This "splitting of the child" is not available to parents who lived together at any time during the last 6 months of the year; then only one of you can claim the child for any tax reasons. The tax benefits may not be split in any other manner.
Note in particular that the non-custodial parent can never claim the Earned Income Credit, Head of Household filing status or the day care credit, based on that child, even when the custodial parent has released the dependency to him.
So, it's a good idea to let the other parent know that you will be claiming those items, as many first time divorced parents are not aware of this rule and may try to claim those items, which will cause the IRS to send out letters.

Scroll down to "Children of divorced or separated parents (or parents who live apart)"
You also say "and 3 step kids". Who claim's them, depends on where they live and is there is any agreement between the biological parents on who will claim them. Theoretically, you can enter them in TurboTax (TT) and TT will determine whether they qualify as your dependents based on your interview answers. But the interview for that situation is complicated and mistakes can happen. It's best to just not enter them if you know the other parent is claiming them for all tax benefits.
