why can't you obtain it?
can you obtain it from the school website?
My daughter has the same issue, University does not provide 1098T for fully paid tuition, but still has room and board and extra expenses paid for that are taxable. Don't know how to add to our tax return, and is it better under her name only and not claim her as a dependent?
If you know how much the student needs to report as scholarship income, please enter that amount on the dependent student's return.
If the student is your dependent, you claim her on your return, but the student claims the scholarship income
If the student meets the filing requirement, they need to select "Yes, Someone else can claim me" and "Yes, someone else will claim me".
Below is how the student claims the scholarship income (scholarships not applied to tuition, fees, books, or supplies)
Click Federal
Click Deductions & Credits
Scroll down to the Education section and click Show More
Scroll down to Expenses and Scholarships (1098-T)
Select that you have an exception to not having a 1098-T
You will need the school's information, such as address and school EIN
Continue through the interview saying there was no expenses and simply enter the amount the student needs to claim as "Additional Scholarship" on the scholarship screen.
After telling Turbotax you didn't get a 1098-T, keep going in the interview, you will eventually be asked if you got scholarship money. The interview goes easier if you answer yes to the question: do you have an exception for not getting a 1098-T. If you went to an eligible institution, you most likely qualify for the exception.
