Med school step 2 exam fee (3rd year), residency application fee (4th year med school ) and related travel to take this exam are the qualified education expenses?

Apart from books purchased outside of schools are tax deductible. But what other expenses like :

My daughter is in med school and every student has to take step 2 CS and Step 2 CK exam to go to next year 4th year are these, qualified education expenses? She travel to attend this exam can I claim as education expenses?. . She apply for 3 year residency program (part of MD program) to medical collages, and paid application fee and travel for interview, are also eligible education expenses?  .

I think one of us is misinterpreting the post SweetieJean.

"to go to next year 4th year...are these, qualified education expenses"

If you mean fourth year of college as an undergraduate, then yes, they're deductible and would fall under the "lab fees" category. If this exam is a requirement that must be met in order to achieve a degree or credentialed certification, it's a qualified expense.

However, the transportation expenses are not deductible. I can't find anywhere in IRS Publication 970 that says otherwise.

No, none of those expenses are deductible.

"My daughter is in med school"  So not college.

Didn't know the exams were for licensing. Thought they were a graduation requirement.

Medical student applying for residency – unfortunately, none of your application or interview expenses are deductible because you are looking for your first job.
