Can I get education credit or deduction in my case

I was attended in 4 months educational programm at National American University less than half-time and earned a Certificate. I paid for the programm by myself. I didn't get 1098 T form, because they said I didn't earn any credits because of "1098ts are only for classes that earn credits". Can i claim the tuition I paid and do I qualify for deduction or credit. Thank you in advance.

Can I get education credit or deduction in my case

A 1098-T is not required to claim deductible education-related expenses. But to claim a credit, you must fulfill the required terms for the applicable credit.

Why did you get this certificate?

If the certificate was required by your current employer, or if it will improve your skills in your current job, then it is deductible as a work-related education expense. It would go on Schedule A, subject to a 2% of AGI floor (2% of your adjusted gross income will be subtracted from your work-related expenses).

If the purpose of the certificate was to qualify for a different job, then it is not deductible.

Here is what the IRS says about deductible work-related education expenses.
