Your K-1 form should include the amounts needed for TurboTax to calculate the Qualified Business Income Deduction.  Depending upon the type of K-1 forms, for 1065 K-1, look in box 20 for amounts with codes Z to AD and for 1120S K-1, look in box 17 for codes V to Z as these are the codes used to gather amounts for the QBID calculation.

Once your K-1 form is entered, other questions may be asked that relate to the QBI calculation, but then TurboTax will automatically calculate the QBID and place it on line 9 of your 1040 form.

Here is how to preview your 1040 form in TurboTax online:

  1. Select Tax Tools in the black column on the left hand side of screen.
  2. Then select Tools.
  3. Click on View Tax Summary -- this will give you information as to what is flowing where on your return.
  4. Plus, from the Tax Summary view, you can select Preview My 1040 in the black column on the left.  This will show you your 1040 form as it currently stands.
  5. To go back to your return, select Back from the left hand column.

Okay, so when I was on the Review page, it told me that the K-1 form is not yet ready. Is that why the info didn't populate to line 9?

It certainly could be.  So, yes, wait until those forms are available and then see if the QBID calculates for your return.  I have added a link above which will list the forms availability status.
