No one can see your tax return.  We do not know your filing status, whether you have any dependents to claim, whether you had W-2 income or a combination of W-2 and self-employment income, all self-employment, etc. etc. etc.  There are a lot of variables that go into the calculation of your refund or tax due.  If you did not have enough tax withheld from your paychecks or did not pay enough in estimated payments for self-employment income, that would result in a small refund or even in owing tax due.

Without knowing all the rest of your tax return it could be your withholding was just enough to cover the tax on your total income.  You should  try to come out  close to  0 refund or 0 tax due.

Generally, a tax refund is the return of taxes withheld and/or refundable credits (such as an Earned Income Tax credit) over whatever your tax liability was for the tax year.  You can check page 2 of your form 1040 to see your tax liability and withholding/credits used to determine your refund.  Here are the steps to view your 1040 in online products.  You can use the "Forms View" in desktop products to see the forms.

1. Select "Tax Tools" in the left hand menu
2. Select "Tools"
3. Select "View Tax Summary"
4. Select "Preview My 1040" in the left hand menu
