transferring files from 202 home and business to 2021 business

I have a feeling a bought "more" turbo tax in the form of 2021 Business than I was supposed to. I have filed Home and Business for a small consulting business I have and get a 1099-MISC for. When purchasing the desktop version of TurboTax at Costco, I could have sworn the display outline said I needed 2021 Business. I loaded my 2021 Business and tried to transfer files from last years, but it can't find them? Will H and B files from 2020 not transfer to Business 2021? I've resaved 2020's a number of times as .pdf's, but my 2021 Business doesn't find them?

No.  Turbo Tax Business is a totally different program.  And you can't transfer a personal return to Business.   If you used Home & Business before you do not need Business.

Turbo Tax Business is a separate program from Home & Business.  TT Business is for 1120 Corporation, 1120S Corp, 1065 Partnership or 1041 Estate/Trust returns. Not for self employed independent contractors.  Any version of Turbo Tax (except the Free Online edition) will handle a 1099Misc and 1099NEC.  You just get more help in the higher versions.

So, am I screwed and out the $80 I paid for this version? I've already registered it and installed it. Will Turbo Tax allow me to download the correct version that I need without paying for a whole other version?

If you can't get a refund from Costco call in and ask.  Use the words Billing Issue not refund.

In looking at the price of the Business version online, I have a feeling that Costco gave me the wrong version. I'm sure I paid the price of the Home and Business version, and it appears the Costco rep pulled a version out of the wrong bin. I remember paying $80, and their Business version is $120.

I hope so!  Don't suppose you still have the receipt?  Costco did have a sale prices.   I buy my Home & Business at Costco.   I would sure go back and ask them.   Maybe they can look up your account and see what you bought.

Exactly as I suspected...I paid for the Home and Business at Costco back around Christmas time, and the Customer Service rep who digs them out of the locked cabinets gave me the wrong one....and I didn't catch it until I just went to start my taxes. As it was, the receipt was long gone, but Costco chat support emailed it to me! Thank you for pointing out the distinction between the 2, which caused my brain to click into gear and try to remember what I actually bought. back to Costco tomorrow for an exchange...
