in desktop forms mode there are facsimile worksheets where numbers/alpha can be entered. however, any override of a Turbotax calculated amount will void the accuracy guarantee.
there is no forms mode in the online versions so any override will also void the guarantee. e-filing for 2021 is closed and overrides in 2022 will prevent e-filing
perhaps if you tell us the issue we can suggest a solution or work-around
The tag below your question indicates that you are using TurboTax Online. There is no way to override an entry in TurboTax Online because there is no forms mode.
In the CD/Download TurboTax software, to override an entry in forms mode right-click the entry you want to override, then select Override on the pop-up menu. The value that has been overridden will be displayed in red instead of black. Not all entries can be overridden.
An override can cause the automatic calculations to break in unexpected ways, even in places that you think are not related to the override. An override cancels the accuracy guarantee and also prevents e-filing. You can use an override to experiment, but you should not need an override in a return that you are going to file. If you need an override, you might be trying to make TurboTax do something that it is not designed to do or does not support.
I am using desktop. Not online. I want to do a trial return to estimate amount of tax due, so I want to override to make entries. Turbo Tax Deluxe 2022 won't let me do this. I was always able to do before.
Are you using Windows or a Mac. In 2022 TurboTax in Windows I am able to override. But as I said, not all entries can be overridden. It might be more accurate to say that many or most entries cannot be overridden. If you can't override a value that comes from another form, you might have to work back to where it comes from.
If you make several overrides, your estimate is essentially worthless because you are preventing the TurboTax calculations from working properly. If there's nothing particularly unusual about your tax return, you should not need overrides to do an estimate. You should be able to enter your information in forms mode in the places that are designated for manual input. Or you might actually find it easier to use the Step-by-Step interview.
An override is not just an entry. It's changing an amount that TurboTax has calculated. You shouldn't need to do that. And overriding what TurboTax has calculated reduces or completely destroys the accuracy of your estimate.
Even though the downloaded program comes out sometime in November each year it is only a beta version which will not be fully operational until late January at the earliest (much later for some forms and the state programs). Efiling will not be open until late January at best so do not be in a rush to file.
Same with the Online version which becomes functional sometime in December.

If you are trying to do some 2022 tax planning then use the fully operational 2021 downloaded version instead.
This is my mini version of a tutorial that should be in the downloaded program:
Forms Mode lets you view and make changes to your tax forms "behind the scenes."
If you're adventurous, you can even prepare your return in Forms Mode, but we don't recommend it. You may miss obscure credits and deductions you qualify for, and you may forget to report things that will come back and haunt you later.
Forms Mode is exclusively available in the TurboTax CD/Download software. It is not available in TurboTax Online.
If you want to play around with different figures and tax scenarios without affecting your original return you can ….
Once you have filed successfully … you can shut off the auto updater function and then save the return & .taxfile.
For Windows, up in the top menu, you can set the "Updater Preferences" to "Always Ask" or more commonly set to "I don't have an internet connection" (even if you do), and then you are not forced to update....and can manually force an update when you choose to do so. And then you can open the file(s) at any time with no forced upgrade.
But that's the Windows software.....not a MAC. For a MAC you cannot turn off the auto updater HOWEVER you can simply disconnect from the internet before opening the tax return.
It's always a good idea to make a backup copy of your tax data file, in case your original gets lost or corrupted. Here's how:
If you make changes to your original tax return file, repeat these steps to ensure your original and backup copies are in-synch.
AND save it as a PDF so you have access to a copy even if you don’t have the program still installed and operational :
AND protect the files :

In the forms mode ... double click or right click on a box on a form to data source it ... sadly it doesn't work on all boxes.
When you look at an onscreen tax form using Forms Mode, you might wonder why one figure is blue and the one next to it is red or black.
These colors indicate the source of that data.
Color | Meaning |
Blue | You entered this data, either in the interview or Forms Mode. |
Black | The program entered this data or calculated this amount. |
Red | This data has either been overridden or is invalid (for example, a ZIP code that doesn't exist). |
Red italics | You marked this amount as estimated. |
Black italics | The program calculated this amount from an amount you marked as estimated. |
Purple | This information has supporting details. |
Aquamarine | This data was transferred over from last year. |
Green | This data was imported from Quicken or QuickBooks. |
Yellow fields (Windows) | Yellow fields allow user input. Anything you enter here shows up in blue. |
50% of income earned from K! is attributable to ex wife that we normally override and system will not let me override this year
I am not using online version but desktop version and it will not allow me to override amounts on Schedule B

Schedule B is used to enter interest and dividend income. Go back and check your entries for a Form 1099-INT and Form 1099-DIV. Make any changes as needed.
To report interest income received -
Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home & Business)
Click on Wages and Income (Personal Income using Home & Business)
Click on I'll choose what I work on
Under Interest and Dividends
On Interest on 1099-INT, click on the start or update button

Turbo tax does not allow you to generate an 8606 for yourself when your spouse dies and you need to create a form in your own name so that you have the same basis your spouse had due to non deductible contributions.
You will have to create a manually prepared IRS form 8606 and file the tax return by mail. See this TurboTax Help.
If any of these three situations apply to you:
you will have to download and print Form 8606, manually fill it out (instructions), and print and file your return. You will not be able to electronically file your tax return.
How does a user override an mistaken entry ?
I cant file
If you are using the Desktop/Download version of TurboTax, and you override a calculation entry in Forms Mode, this would void your Accurate Calculation Guarantee. Please see here for more information.
If you want to experiment with different scenarios before filing, you can use the Online version or create a "dummy" file in the Desktop version.
If you made an entry error in either the Online or Desktop version, you can return to the section where the entry error occurred and edit the previous entry.
If you are receiving an error that prevents filing, review the error message carefully to determine how to correct it. You can search this Community to find discussion threads that address the specific issue you are having. Type in a search term in the box at the top of the screen that says "Search a question or keyword" and click Enter or Return.

You don't use an override to correct a mistaken entry. The term "override" has a very specific meaning in TurboTax. It means changing an amount that TurboTax has calculated. That's not what you want to do. If you entered something incorrectly, go back to the screen or interview section where you made the incorrect entry and change it to the correct information. That's not an override, it's a correction.
If you need help getting back to where you made the mistaken entry, tell us exactly what you need to correct and we'll try to give you detailed instructions. Also tell us whether you are using TurboTax Online or the CD/Download TurboTax software, and what edition (Deluxe, Premium, etc.).
I'm having an issue in completing e-file.
