Home & Business 2024 desktop can't create 1099 form?

It seems that it can only load *.tax2023 files, not the *.tax2024 files, when I follow this instructions for the desktop version:

https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-forms/create-w-2-1099-forms-employee...

Anyone know the reason for it?

I don't understand.  You can only import or transfer 2023 to start creating the 2024 forms.  That link got messed up in the spam filter and doesn't work.   Is it this one?  How to prepare 1099 & W2

What .tax2024 file are you trying to load and to where?

You can do them 2 different ways from the Windows Desktop Home & Business program. Either Online using Quick Employer Forms (QEF) -or- directly on your computer with the Desktop-Create Forms .  If you use the Desktop way on your computer you have to mail them to the IRS and not efile.   Which method do you want to use?

On the beginning screen that has the Continue box and Start a New Return blue button, below is the Create 1099/W-2 button. Or you can go up to File-Create 1099/W-2. That will open a box to Create employer forms in the online Quick Employer Forms (QEF).

Do you get this screen?

Home & Business 2024 desktop can't create 1099 form?

Thanks!

I think I got it now. It assumes my business was there in 2023, so when doing it for 2024, it will try to import from 2023's data. But if I started the business in 2024, it is a bit odd that it can't import from .tax2024 (I need it to help create 1099-DEC for 2024).

Another thing that confused me a bit was that, the online Quick Employer Forms is not connected with the desktop version of the software - I thought if I put the info in one place, it will auto sync to the other place. But it looks like I have to type them twice: using Quick Employer Forms to capture and issue 1099-DEC, then in the desktop version, input the total amount plus a bit summary. (Yes, the desktop version will open the browser for QEF, but it won't sync back the data automatically)

OK several things to clear up here.   2024 is the year we are doing now.  You can't import a .tax2024 file for anything.    Creating the 1099 forms is a completely separate process  from your personal 1040 return.  They do not sync.

You don't have to type them in twice except if you mean to enter it on your schedule C in your personal return.  You either use the online QEF Quick Employer Forms which you can efile to the IRS.  OR Create them on the Desktop program which you will have to print and mail  to the IRS yourself.  Neither way will enter them into Schedule C.

Then on your schedule C in y our personal return you just enter the total for all the 1099NEC forms as Contract Labor on line 11.
