Hello experts,
I have a very weird issue. I change my "Business Description" from "Consulting" to "Software contracting" and the amount I owe goes from$9042 to $10,476. I would not expect nothing to change when I edit Business Profile. I have to believe this is a bug, just looking for a sanity check. I can reproduce this problem with ease.
If you think it is a bug, any suggestions on a number, email or some other way I can contact Intuit to show them?
Thanks in advance.
Dave
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
Is that the ONLY thing you changed? Or did you change type of business or anything else?
You said you can reproduce the problem. Does that mean it changes back if you change the name back? If so, it would be ideal to print out the return before the change then again after the change to see exactly what changes on the tax forms.
If it doesn't change back and forth, what MIGHT have happened is that for some reason once in a while when you enter numbers in the software the calculations do not 'trigger' to change the amount. When you entered the new name, it may have 'triggered' the calculations from whatever you had entered before the name change. But if it does change back and forth, then there obviously is something else going on.
Hello,
Thank you so mush for your answer. I talked with tech support (after passing through several levels last night) and worked with an expert (Mary) that just rocked! She basically followed your line of thought and went between the step-by-step and the forms and found in the schedule C what field the "description" field was changing in schedule C. It turns out, when the description field changes it wipes out the startup costs from schedule C. If I put back the exact description name as I had prior the startup costs are again deducted in schedule C.
She agreed it was a software bug and logged it as part of my case. I believe if more people have the same problem, Intuit will eventually fix the problem. I make a living out of developing software and it is strange to me that it takes a number of people to complain before what is a clear software bug is fixed. I now know how to fix the issue; just go back into startup costs section and go through the screens again and the startup costs are again known to the program.
Bottom line, Mary did exactly what you suggested to get to the root cause of the problem.
Again, Thanks.
Dave
