Hello,
Thank you so mush for your answer. I talked with tech support (after passing through several levels last night) and worked with an expert (Mary) that just rocked! She basically followed your line of thought and went between the step-by-step and the forms and found in the schedule C what field the "description" field was changing in schedule C. It turns out, when the description field changes it wipes out the startup costs from schedule C. If I put back the exact description name as I had prior the startup costs are again deducted in schedule C.
She agreed it was a software bug and logged it as part of my case. I believe if more people have the same problem, Intuit will eventually fix the problem. I make a living out of developing software and it is strange to me that it takes a number of people to complain before what is a clear software bug is fixed. I now know how to fix the issue; just go back into startup costs section and go through the screens again and the startup costs are again known to the program.
Bottom line, Mary did exactly what you suggested to get to the root cause of the problem.
Again, Thanks.
Dave
