I posted the following as part of a longer question:
IRS says "Payments you made" is slightly less than "Taxes you owe"; amount due.
… but I think the question here is granular enough to ask on it's own.
Status: Married, filed jointly. Form generated by TurboTax: 1040-SR.
The total of federal tax withheld from 1099-R forms, as shown in TurboTax ("My Tax Data"), is about $1,000 greater than the amount in Form 1040 Payments, Form(s) 1099, line 25b.
Is that to be expected?

Are you using the Online version? Call in and ask them to look at it. Ask them for the Desktop program so you can open your return and see the actual forms and detail worksheets. Your 1099R box 4 are MORE than 1040SR line 25b? Could you have entered a 1099R in another place as a W2 or other kind of 1099?
I can see how 1040 line 25b could be more than the 1099Rs like if you had federal withholding on something else like Social Security or 1099B for investments but it shouldn’t be less than 1099R. Did you miss entering a 1099R? Are 1040SR boxes 4a and 5a for the gross amounts right?
You can get a sanitized file of your return and post the token number here and I’ll try to get an employee to look at it. The file is stripped out of all your Personal Info

No. 1040 line 25b should be the same or more than all your 1099R box 4. Go back and double check the 1099R entries. And if you imported them I would delete them and enter it again Manually. That usually fixes it.
Thank you for your reply.
I took screenshots of everything I did in TT, and those numbers match with what displays in TT ("My Tax Data") (for the 1099-R's). I entered everything manually.

To cut to the chase, I made an error in my review of taxes paid, and there is no longer a problem regarding this specific matter. I'll reply and add some more info:
I'm using the desktop version.
"Your 1099R box 4 are MORE than 1040SR line 25b? Could you have entered a 1099R in another place as a W2 or other kind of 1099? You are spot on that line 25b was actually more (not less, was I wrote) than the sum of the 1099Rs.
The "Tax Payments Worksheet, Forms 1099-R, line 12" was correct, but 1040-SR: "Payments, Form(s) 1099, line 25b" was way off from that amount. Turns out, as you postulated, that line includes the taxes paid from my "FORM SSA-1099SM". I glossed over that the SSA form was a type of 1099.
I spent a lot of time reviewing numbers from every which way, but overlooked something very simple. My apologies, and sincere thanks for your help!
It's also great to know I can get a sanitized file of my return and post the token number here … !
