I'm 99% sure I told TT to debit my checking acct for the amount I owed on state taxes using the same bank info that I used for my fed tax payment. Both payments are set for May 16. The email from TT about my Fed status indicates that I'm done, but the email about the state tax says "Mail in your tax payment along with your payment voucher." and "Next step: Find the copy of your return you printed for your records. Inside your printed return will be the payment voucher you need, which also includes the mailing address where your payment and voucher should be mailed."
Questions
1. How do I confirm that my state tax payment is indeed set to debit my checking account?
2. If confirmed, do I still need to send in the voucher (and payment?) that TT says is required?
3. If confirmed and I don't have to send in the voucher, why does TT say it's required?
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
1. To confirm what is set for your state tax payment, download the PDF and look for instructions included. Not all states accept direct debit. To check whether your state does, click the link: What are my options for getting my state refund or for paying any state taxes I owe?
2. If the state is confirmed that it was set to electronically withdrawal and the state accepts electronic withdrawals, then no, there is no need to send in the voucher. However, since TurboTax is saying it is required, the answer to #1 is likely no.
3. Please see answer to number 1. The option to electronically pay the state is available but may not be applicable to your circumstance.
There may be a portal for your state to pay online, instead. To reach out to your state, start here: How do I contact my state Department of Revenue?
TY for the reply. My state is Indiana. TT's pdf doesn't explicity say whether the state does or does not accept direct payment. After a little bit of web searching, it looks like Indiana does not. So, that seems to mean I can pay at the state's website, which I will do. But, despite TT's instruction, I'm guessing there's no need to mail the voucher?
That is correct. If you instead go to the Indiana state website, there would be no need to mail the voucher. The state will tie out your payment to the submitted tax return. Click the link for the Indiana Payment Portal: INtax Pay.
Thank You.
By definition a voucher is a discount. So why am I getting discount coupons and I have to pay at the same time? And send in summary tax statements?
I paid Turbo tax to file my State taxes. I gave everyone access to my checking account.
If I have to mail something to the State then what good is TurboTax?
I am refusing the credit card bill from Turbo Tax for processing the State return.
This is very much Turbo at taking my money and not so very Turbo at processing my taxes.
You know the State will now charge a late fee because Turbo Tax failed to pay when they said they would and Turbo charged extra to processes my State Tax. This is a total steal. There are only 50 states. Don't act like you don't know which ones accept automatically withdraw.
Payment voucher is not a discount. It is an optional form that you can include with your check payment if you owe the IRS at the time of filing. Click here: https://freefile-help.intuit.com/app/post/1933745
What are you calling discount coupons? Did it print out 4 quarterly 1040ES slips for federal and maybe state? Those are for estimated pre-payments for next year. They are optional to pay. They don't get sent with your return and the IRS or state won't be expecting them. They are not for your current tax due.
I am a day late in paying my Indiana State Tax and will be charged a late fee from the State because of using Turbo Tax to file my State taxes. Turbo Tax Software 2020 on 17 May 21 said Complete for Federal and State. I paid $25 for Turbo Tax to process my State Taxes. The Turbo Tax software said complete for both Federal and State. Next day I get an email from Turbo Tax saying "Mail in State Tax Payment with Payment Voucher".
So is the Turbo Tax message for 2020 Taxes Due or for 2021 Tax Estimates?
#1) The Vouchers in the ate Filing are for 2021 Estimated Tax... so am I to pay both 2021 and 2020 or only one?
#2) After doing an Internet search there is a PFC "Coupon" in the State Tax Package to pay 2020 Tax Due.
A "Coupon" is used to mail in 2020 Tax Due or one can use the Online Indiana Tax Payment system.
The Turbo Tax email and Software say nothing about Paying taxes due for 2020 the day of 17 May 21 nor did it say anything about paying the day after 17MAY21. When I finalized my taxes and Turbo Tax said "COMPLETE". The email from Turbo Tax says pay the Voucher which is 2021 Estimated Taxes.
So now I will be charged a late fee and I also paid Turbo tax $25 to take care of my State taxes. Turbo Tax is the so called experts. So far things Turbo Tax does not know: 1) Turbo Tax can't process the Indiana State Tax Due for the Tax Payer from the Tax Payer's provided cash account. 2) The difference between a Voucher and a Coupon. 3) A simple message to the Indiana Tax Pay when finalizing State Turbo Tax that the tax payment requires the Tax Payer to pay by email or electronically BEFORE 17MAY21.
So, Turbo tax owes me the following:
1) Full Refund of the $25 I paid to process the State Taxes:
- Why? Because you did not process my 2020 State Taxes like you said you would.
2) All penalties changed by the State to the Tax Payer because of paying a day late.
- Why? Because your software said I was complete.
- Why? Turbo Tax took my account information to pay the State but failed to do so.
- Why? Turbo Tax gives the messages all is OK and paid in both the software and the email confirmation.
- Why? Even the Turbo tax email message after the fact is wrong, it's says use the vouchers.
Please tell me how you will pay me at.... [email address removed]
This mistake is on you.
So: Is my Federal Tax Payment all %&^$-Up also?
See my reply below. This is all so very much screwed up.
