I used the Turbotax CD for my 2020 taxes. I scheduled payments for my federal and state returns to be withdrawn on 4/14/21. The Turbotax Electronic Instructions page correctly indicates that withdrawal date. My bank account reflects a withdrawal payment to the state but not my federal payment. How do I get confirmation from Turbo tax about my scheduled payment to the IRS?

TurboTax does not make your tax payment. TurboTax sends your bank information to the IRS, and the IRS withdraws the money from your bank account. The IRS does not notify TurboTax when they make the withdrawal.
The IRS is currently having a problem making the withdrawals and they are working on fixing it. The problem occurs with all tax software, not just TurboTax.
TT doesn't PAY anything ... the debit information is sent with the IRS/State and it is the taxing authority who completes the transaction.
If you selected Direct Debit from your bank account to pay the Federal taxes owed, that information was sent with your e-filed federal tax return.
Look at the Federal Information Worksheet in Part V. The bank name, routing number, account number and the date you selected to pay the taxes owed will be entered. If you did not select Direct Debit from your bank account then nothing will be in Part V. Look on your Federal Filing Instruction page for how you selected to pay the Federal taxes owed.
To access your current or prior year online tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the userID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/
When you sign onto your online account and land on the Tax Home web page, scroll down and click on Add a state.
This will take you back to the 2019 online tax return.
Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the online program screen. Then click on Print Center. Then click on Print, save or preview this year's return. Choose the option Include government and TurboTax worksheets
For the State taxes owed the same type of information will be on the State Information Worksheet in Part V of the worksheet and on the State Filing Instructions page.
However most states, if not all, do not allow state taxes owed to be paid by Direct Debit when using tax preparation software. They require the payment by Direct Debit only when using the State tax authorities website.
NOW IF EVERYTHING IS CORRECT : be patient as the IRS is way behind in processing balance due returns so write the amount off in your account and one day it will be gone. The debit could take months like they did last year so just be patient ... the ball is in the IRS court now.
BUT IF THE DEBIT INFO IS INCORRECT OR MISSING : you have until 5/17 to make the payment either by mailing in a check or paying directly online as www.IRS.gov/payments ... if you owe the state see your state's website for payment options.

The IRS announced yesterday (April 22, 2021) that they have resolved the problem with direct debit payments and they are now processing the payments that were delayed. Payments will be credited as of the payment date that the taxpayer specified.
I did not specify turbo tax to specify electronic withdrawal which they obviously did. The IRS then did a withdrawal for my due taxes. I also sent a check for that amount which they cashed. Now I have paid double the amount of taxes due. How do I or you straighten this out

You will have to contact the IRS and speak with an agent about this issue.
Call the IRS: 1-800-829-1040 hours 7 AM - 7 PM local time Monday-Friday
When calling the IRS do NOT choose the first option re: "Refund", or it will send you to an automated phone line.
So after first choosing your language, then do NOT choose Option 1 (refund info). Choose option 2 for "personal income tax" instead.
Then press 1 for "form, tax history, or payment".
Then press 3 "for all other questions."
Then press 2 "for all other questions."
- When it asks you to enter your SSN or EIN to access your account information, don't enter anything.
- After it asks twice, you will get another menu.
Press 2 for personal or individual tax questions.
Then press 3 for all other inquiries
It should then transfer you to an agent.
Sorry but the program only does what you ask it to do so in the FILE tab step 2 you must have indicated that you wanted the IRS to debit the payment which is what they did. You were not to also mail in a payment. This is a user error not a program flaw. Log back in, scroll down and click on ADD A STATE to see the choice you made in the FILE tab and/or look at the filing instruction page for the same information.
