What should I do if my return has been pending for over 48 hours?

You will need to contact the IRS  at 1-800-829-1040 and follow the prompts for a live representative. The person that you speak with will have direct access to your tax return and be able to provide you with a status update.

When you call, make sure you have the following information:

  • tax year
  • social security number
  • filing status
  • exact refund amount

What should I do if my return has been pending for over 48 hours?

Yes. After January, e-filed returns generally sit in Pending status for 24–48 hours (occasionally a little longer) before coming back as either Accepted or Rejected. Sometimes state returns stay in Pending for several days or even longer. For more info please click the link below.

What should I do if my return has been pending for over 48 hours?

I am experiencing the exact same thing. I "fixed" my return and re efiled it using Turbo tax and it has been pending for over a week now. I am curious how you handled your situation. Hopefully you aren't still pending. Thank you in advance for your time

What should I do if my return has been pending for over 48 hours?

My goodness would you “Experts” please stop copy and pasting the same asinine message? Stop ignoring the specifics of this issue and stop suggesting that people whom submitted their return through February 1st-now and beyond with have a turn around time of minutes - 48hrs. And that it’s only those whom submitted their return before February 1st that are now a part of a backlog and not subject to the first in first out scenario that the email from you guys actually suggests. With “welcome to the front of the line ____”

I submitted 1/26/21, been pending since. Meanwhile a relative files 2/08 and is accepted around 2am on 2/12/21.

This is disheartening.

What should I do if my return has been pending for over 48 hours?

Last year, my return was "pending" for several days but ultimately rejected. Over 48 hours is not a good sign. I hope you get some useful assistsnce on this. It sucks to be kept in limbo like that.

What should I do if my return has been pending for over 48 hours?

It varies, but normally it takes 24-48 hours. Also, the identity-protection safeguards implemented by the IRS in recent years may account for longer wait times. Eventually, you will receive an email letting you know whether or not your return has been accepted or rejected. TurboTax FAQ "What does Pending mean? "states, "Pending simply means that your e-filed return is on its way and that the government hasn't accepted or rejected it yet.

If you e-filed your return in January, it'll stay in Pending status until the IRS starts processing the backlog of returns. After January, e-filed returns generally sit in Pending status for 24-48 hours before coming back as either Accepted or Rejected.

Sometimes state returns stay in Pending for several days or even longer. If you contact the government or try to look up your refund status while your return is still pending, don't be surprised if they tell you "no record found." This is normal; until the government starts reviewing and processing your return, they won't have any record of it."

What should I do if my return has been pending for over 48 hours?

Wow, thank you, so much, for copy and pasting the same reply the other 37 “Experts” posted. You figure you guys would change the parts of it that are, you know, wrong and/or stupid.

In no way shape or form is it logical or acceptable to say that returns submitted in January will be processed at some point after those submitted in February. What kind of moronic logic is that?

You guys need to seriously work on your support skills. As well as actual knowledge of what is occurring. Your current stance is not only completely fabricated, it’s infuriatingly disrespectful.

One of my family member's TurboTax status says the return is still pending, but has already gotten their refund. I think there might be a glitch.

Please know that is the IRS that has to approve your return, not Turbo Tax. No one person has the same tax situation, so it can vary, but normally it takes 24-48 hours.
