Today I received an NSF from my bank as the "IRS" was trying to deduct my balance due from my account and there was not enough in my account to cover it, so it did not go through.
I had already paid the IRS via direct pay so my balance is $0.
I called Intuit/Turbo Tax customer service and was told they didn't have any information at all regarding my payment plan. They couldn't see it -- it was personal.
I called the IRS, and they told me it wasn't them trying to collect -- I have a $0 balance. It was the company where I filed my taxes trying to collect.
A huge RED FLAG for me, and I've been using Turbo Tax for many, many years.
So, someone's trying to collect money out of my account, and it's not the IRS, and Turbo Tax knows nothing.
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
When you filed the return, in the file tab step 2, you have the option to set up a direct debit from your bank account. If you set that direct debit up then the IRS is trying to take the money you told them to take. They did not realize that you paid online directly to them. This was not an error by TurboTax because you're the one that set up that option. The feds will not try to attempt to debit the account a second time and since the balance due has been paid that will be the end of it from their end. Save a PDF of your return and take a look at what you did so you know what not to do again next year.
Hi:
I stated that I would send a check. I did not agree to Turbo Tax deductng funds from my account.
I appreciate your quick response, especially since calling Turbo Tax got me nowhere.
If you indicated you would send a check then no direct debit info would have been forwarded to the IRS ... check that again to see what you actually did... review the filing instruction page for the feds and the one for the state.
To access your current or prior year online tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the User ID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/
When you sign onto your online account and land on the Tax Home web page, scroll down and click on Add a state.
This will take you back to the 2022 online tax return.
Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the online program screen. Then click on Print Center. Then click on Print, save or preview this year's return.
Choose the option Include government and TurboTax worksheets
Thanks for all the information and help.
It's been a long day, but I'll review your comments in detail tomorrow. I It was probably user error in one way or another, but in my memory, I chose the option "pay by check." I'll sign in tomorrow and try to "add a state" like you suggested. Maybe I'll be able to review and find my error, or I could just LET IT GO! Overall, it did catch me off guard today, and I've been using Turbo Tax for many years without a problem. I did my taxes super fast this year though -- maybe I should have slowed down a bit.
Thanks again for your help.
