@JVH101

Did you e-File 1040X after changing the dependents list?

In the past it was reported that IRS did not allow you to e-File that.

Maybe the IRS has since fixed that limitation.

Yep, I'm in my one and only account. Tried the Get ALL the Accounts link, made no difference. But thanks for the suggestion!

@JVH101  Can you please let me know how did you finally solve this issue ?  I am having exactly the same behavior. I received a 2021 W2C with some 500$ additional Wages. When I try to Amend the program is saying huge refund in thousands !  Even the generated 1040X has wrong original AGI.

Thanks and Regards.

Trying to amend my 2021 return

I am amending my 2021 taxes.  It didn't start at zero.  It says I owe more money.  But it added the amount I paid last year and the new amount.  If I send it in, I should only have to pay the difference.  Will the IRS understand if the checks are for less money than what is reported on the amended tax return.

Yes, the IRS will review the amended return Form 1040X and reconcile the changes to the originally filed tax return.  Since you have already made a payment to the IRS, they will apply your new payment to your account accordingly. If there are any differences you will be notified by letter.

In Part III of Form 1040-X, you'll need to provide a clear explanation of your reasons for filing an amended return.

If amending your tax return results in a higher tax bill, you will need to make an additional tax payment. You can mail a check with the amendment or go online and make a payment at the IRS website after logging into their system. By making a payment now instead of waiting for the IRS to send an invoice, you can minimize the interest and penalties you'll owe.
