You do not have to answer any of the questions in the Deductions and Credits section of the program that pertain to itemized deductions.  Just skip those sections.  The Standard Deduction is automatic unless your total itemized deductions are greater than the standard deduction for your filing status, or you change your deduction type from standard to itemized.

Although you may want to enter deductions if you can Itemize them on your state return.

I agree.  Granted you can skip them, but an option would make it a lot easier.
