If someone dies in 2014, they could get a W-2 for 2015, 2016 sounds strange. What boxes have an amount?  The surviving spouse files Single in 2016 and would not report such a W-2.

There's amounts in the w2 in box 1,box 2, box 5, box 6 and box 14   She has no child so she can't file qualifying widower , does she file single and just doesn't use the w2 at all ?
