.Tax file for 2024

Where is the .Tax file in Premier version of 2024 Desktop version to save for next year? I am done with taxes already.

On my Windows 11 PC, it's in:

/Documents/TurboTax/

All years are stored in that default directory..... Unless you-yourself directed your tax file to a different folder.

I only see 2023 in there. Nothing saved for 2024 tax year. Did they change something? There is no .tax2024 file I see.

Well, use your system's file explorer to look for all   *.tax2024 files.

Or, perhaps you directed the file to some other directory...or a cloud drive?

you could also open your 2024 tax file again...and use the "Save-AS" option.

When the window opens to select where it goes to, you'll immediately see the directory it will go to at the top of the window.

Yep.....I updated my system this year and now mine goes to  ...../OneDrive/Documents/TurboTax

I think I found it. It has a slightly different name this year. I will upload a picture to confirm. Does it need just the Form 1040 for next year or all Schedules too with the Worksheets?

The .tax2024 datafile contains everything you entered into the software for 2024.

Don't use a PDF for uploading to the next year...uploading that will transfer very little beyond names/SSN/AGI and is almost useless as a year-to-year transfer.

Both files had different names. Windows could not even locate the .tax files! So next year the .tax2024 will be imported into TT25?

That file for 2023 looks weird.  Why does it have your email in it?  I would try renaming it and taking out the email address.  Also it starts with the ~ Tilde sign.  That is a temporary file Turbo Tax makes in case your real file gets corrupted or lost.  You should be able to open it or transfer it into 2024 if you fix the name.  

The .tax2024  looks like the normal .tax file that you will need to transfer into next year 2025.

Turbo Tax 2024 did accept it in. I think I know. I had imported from Turbo Tax Online the 2022 returns. Used desktop for the first time in 2023.

But 2024 did look for it and import it in. Hope it was correct as I already filed.
