When e-filing a JOINT return, the program asks for the AGI for both husband and wife. Have filed jointly for years - so what does one put in for the AGI for both husband and wife. Seems logical to use the joint AGI but that didn't work out. Error messages are useless.
If it was rejected for AGI—-be aware that many 2020 returns took so long for the IRS to process that your 2020 AGI might not be in the IRS system. Try using zero instead.
If filing with zero is rejected then file again but select the option that you did not file last year. The IRS does not see that question and it will allow you to e-file with no AGI question.

If that does not work and you still cannot e-file, then print, sign, and mail your tax return.
Yes if you filed a joint return last year the enter the same AGI for each of you. There is only one AGI on a Joint return. But if it rejects then enter 0. The IRS took a long time to process returns so the AGI didn't get entered into the IRS in time. 0 works for most people.
