Submitted completed returns the eve of April 18th & rec'd "Federal return accepted" note w/same date --but just rec'd 'late penalty' bill frm IRS! Should TurboTax pay it?

I'd accept TurboTax's assistance in proving we submitted our returns before the deadline, to successfully 'fight' this erroneous penalty fee. Is there any access to 'timeline' data, to show we effectively 'dropped the returns into the digital mailbox before midnight'?

Curious - what is the time stamp on the “accept” email you received…. Please include your  time zone

I assume you had a tax due?  When and how did you pay it?

There are 2 kinds of penalties associated with filing  ... late filing & late payment ... so which penalty are they applying to you ?

When did you pay the balance due?  If you owed more than $1000 then they can also access an underpayment penalty + interest ... so check the notice carefully.   Read up on this at the IRS here :
