Social Secuity Taxable amount

I have entered wages, interest, and rental income that total $67,400 for married couple and turbo tax is saying all $52,000 social security received  is nontaxable. This is not correct. How do I resolve this. Is must be an error in software+

2026-01-28_14-07-49.PNG2026-01-28_14-12-19.PNGWhere do you see that it is not taxable?  Look at line 6a and 6b on your form 1040.  The full amount should be listed on line 6a while 85% should be listed on line 6b.

TurboTax is calculating it properly when I enter it.  Double check where you entered it if you are not seeing the numbers on line 6a and 6b.

Social security should be entered by selecting the following:

  1. Income
  2. Retirement Plans and Social Security
  3. Social Security
  4. Enter the full amount in Box 5 Net Benefits

1) For your total income, make sure the rental income you are considering, is just the "profit" after expenses.

2)  If #1 was just considering the rental profit as income, then run thru the SSA-1099 entries again.....there is one follow-up question asking if you are a US citizen residing in certain foreign countries.  Make sure you answer NO to that one if you reside in the USA.    Last year a bunch of people blew past that one only noting that they were a US citizen...and didn't read the rest...thus getting it wrong by answering YES...which wrongly resulted in none of their SS being taxed
