We were supposed to get back over $7,000 and instead our refund came back at $2,000, no actual explanation given, we are gonna have a tax professional look it over before looking into legal action. Last time we will ever use Turbo Tax, actually cheaper to have an accountant do them and have it done right. This is ridiculous!

Let us know what you find out. Did you get a letter from the IRS saying they adjusted your return? I would wait to get it first.
Please post back after you have had your return reviewed by the tax pro and let us know what the problem was. The information you provide may help other users.
Yes we received the letter. It was not helpful and did not explain thousands of dollars difference when we received less than $800.00 child care assistance or the checks cut to us for last year. It does not make any logical sense that the 'program' turbo tax would be off that much. It seems that there are several other people that have had the same type of issues. Maybe we should combine efforts for a large law suit. It also seems ridiculous that we pay a fee to make sure the filing is correct and we can't get a hold of anyone but through community channels. Not helpful not great customer service.
So this option will cause us to pay extra fees and won't have any resolution until after the due date for this tax year. This is due to the fact that they are busy with tax season. We filed early to obtain our refund quickly. We've already paid your extra fees to ensure correct filing. Why shouldn't we receive additional help since we paid a fee to you for you to assist? We have to use this community board...which might strengthen a group law suit, as we can see others are having the same types of issues. Please provide better service so that we don't have to pay even MORE to find programming errors.
Did you get the letter from the IRS yet?
The 2 most common reasons this year is you entered the wrong amount on line 30 for the Recovery Rebate Credit (3rd Stimulus payment) or line 28 for the Child Tax Credit. Those lines are just if you didn't already get the full amount or qualify for more. The IRS knows what they already sent you.
A lot of people answered the questions wrong and tried to claim the credits again. Double check your bank statements to see what the IRS sent you during the year for the 3rd Stimulus payment and Advance Child Tax Credit .
Thank you for your reply.
Since the questions programed can seem to differ in phrasing than the tax form, can you please provide the question that points to #30 on the 1040 form .
That would be helpful.
You mean on the IRS letter? For line 30 it would have a list of generic reasons like a dependents ssn was wrong or your agi was too high. Do you want to know where the Stimulus questions are?
To get to the stimulus questions in TurboTax at any time, you can search for stimulus or recovery rebate credit then hit ENTER and there should be a Jump to link
If you are trying to trigger it,
Click on Other Tax Situations at top
Click on Let's get started
Answer some questions then Continue
Then click on Let's keep going
Next screen is for the Third Stimulus, if you qualify
3/30
Thank you for the continued communication. We have gone through all of these reasons and none apply to us.
Seems we are back to square one with out a way to resolve either incorrect programming of turbo tax or incorrect info from the irs. We answered the questions correctly as we were guided through turbo tax that supported the documentation we have.
What is our next steps to find out a solution?
if TurboTax had submitted your tax return for a refund of $2,000 would you be satisfied and returning to TurboTax next year?
You must determine if the amounts claimed on line 30 and line 28 were correct.
If legitimate claims were denied by the IRS you must dispute in writing and present your reasons.
Start your letter with "I/We dispute this adjustment."
I'm sorry we are completely disappointed in this service and we have a difference of $5k not $2K that would not help us to use the service in the future.
Then you are saying you accept the adjustment made by the IRS.
That is the end of the matter.
Please refund our fees so we can have this looked over by a tax professional that will help. We will also be looking into and watching the message boards for others impacted.
I do appreciate the communication, but am disappointed we are unable to get support to fix the problem.
You are on the TurboTax forum and we are TurboTax users.
If you want a refund, contact Customer Support.
Ok, we will do that thank you.
May you be blessed today.
