Refund

Each tax year is separate.  There is no place to enter anything about your missing refund on your 2024 tax return.   You will have to sort out the issue of the 2023 refund with the IRS by contacting them.   If your refund went to a wrong or closed account, then it would have been sent back to the IRS and the IRS would issue a paper check and mail it to the address on your tax return.   And you say you also had to verify your identity ---which always delays a refund.

Call the IRS: 1-800-829-1040 hours 7 AM - 7 PM local time Monday-Friday
When calling the IRS do NOT choose the first option re: "Refund", or it will send you to an automated phone line.
So after first choosing your language, then do NOT choose Option 1 (refund info). Choose option 2 for "personal income tax" instead.
Then press 1 for "form, tax history, or payment".
Then press 3 "for all other questions."
Then press 2 "for all other questions."
- When it asks you to enter your SSN or EIN to access your account information, don't enter anything.
- After it asks twice, you will get another menu.

Press 2 for personal or individual tax questions.
Then press 3 for all other inquiries
It should then transfer you to an agent.

A new "card"?  If your bank account was closed and they couldn't deposit the refund the IRS  will mail you a check to the address on your return.  You don't claim it again on this year's tax return.  When you file this year at the end you enter your new bank account info.

Refund

My card had expired before I called irs to verify my identity when we got to the end and the part where they were going to go ahead and send my refund my current account info didn't match what I had on my tax return and a paper check is useless to me since I get a prepaid card from my employer and have no bank to go to . They are not authorized to enter new acct info or so they say just want to know how to fix it and get my money

I was hoping not to do that again it took a month of basically waiting on hold and told to call back another time just to be told that even though I proved my identity they weren't authorized to change my account info and they would send a paper check which absolutely does not help me because I have no physical bank to go to all I have is my prepaid card through my employer just wanted to get my money now I have to deal with them again..Thank you though

The IRS does not allow you to change banking information after you file your tax return, so if the card information you gave to the IRS does not work any more, they are going to mail you a check.   It will be your issue to sort out how to deposit or cash the check.   There is no good reason to "only" have a prepaid card issued to you by an employer.    You could open a bank account and deposit the check.   We have heard from some users that they were able to cash federal income tax refund checks at Walmart.
