I need to take an dependent off my return

If you have not yet filed your tax return or if your tax return has been rejected, you can remove the dependent by following the steps below.

• Sign into your online account and select Take me to my return
• Select My Info in the left side bar.
  
• On the Personal Info Summary screen, scroll down to the dependent's name and select the trash can icon to delete.
• Then follow the onscreen instructions to continue and submit your tax return.

If you have already filed your tax return and it has been accepted, you should wait until after your tax return has been processed and you have received your refund, then you can Amend your tax return to remove the dependent.
