Why file early if the irs is going to hold your refund because you have earned income tax credit

So now it’s Feb 20th, have you received it??

Why file early if the irs is going to hold your refund because you have earned income tax credit

So now it’s been exactly 4 weeks since it was accepted, February 20th 2025, did they give you your money??

@Kesha77  The sad part is I Believe like 90% of Americans (or more!), are waiting to get their money, just so they CAN pay their bills…

Nope. The IRS tracking app still just says it was received. It still doesn't say it was approved, and it doesn't have a date of when it's supposed to hit my account. I claimed the child tax credit but not the EIC. My tracking app says due to the PATH act the IRS cannot issue the refund before mid-February.

That is a fact, which makes it more devastating. But my only advice would be for people to dust themselves off and get to work. Bills don't stop and neither does life.

AMEN!!!

My taxes have NEVER been affected by this "PATH act". I've filed with Turbo Tax for 6 years and have ALWAYS had a child during those 6 years and claimed the child tax credit. It makes no sense that I filed my taxes almost 4 weeks ago and the IRS tracking app is still just saying "received". They normally approve my federal refund within 72 hours. The Turbo Tax site says the IRS approved my return, but the IRS tracking app says something different. Almost 4 weeks later and I still don't have a date on when I'm supposed to receive my refund.

This might be helpful to some. There is a chart stating when you file and when you can expect to get your refund. My returns were accepted feb 3rd and the date it gives is tomorrow. I’ll let everyone know how it goes in the morning!

This chart isn't accurate for me. I filed on 1/29 so should've gotten mine back a week ago per that chart, but the IRS tracking app still doesn't even say if mine has been approved. It still just says "received"

I get the panic and the anxiety over waiting for a deposit date. TRUST ME. But the person that replied saying to check the IRS website and login to get your transcripts is 100% right. I just did the same thing and I got my deposit date for the 26th which is in 5 days! I was sitting here fearing something happened but this just took a HUGE weight off my shoulders. For me, it was on the last page.

And I stg if a Gen X or Gen Z'er complains about my "caps": #1 it's called EMPHASIS. and #2 pound sand ❤️

After 4 agonizing weeks of waiting, I checked my IRS app this morning and finally got an update! Mine says my refund will be deposited on 2/25. I paid the extra $25 to TT to have mine 5 days early and I guess that's not going to happen now because if so, they would've hit my account yesterday.

I'll know better next year. I'm a millennial too 🙂 We're the best!

I filed on 1/29 and my refund just hit my bank account on 2/22. Did you claim the child tax credit or the earned income credit? Did you do direct deposit or a mailed paper check? If you claimed those things I listed and if you have direct deposit, it normally takes 3-4 weeks for you refund to hit your account.

If you got a paper check mailed, ive heard it takes about 6 weeks. On the Turbo Tax site there should be a link called "where's my refund?" you can track it on there or on the IRS app.

Due to PATH Act, the IRS holds refunds for EITC/ACTC customers until March 3.

Here are a couple FAQs to track your refund:

When will I get my federal tax refund?
How do I track my state refund?
Why does Where's My Refund say "approved" but TurboTax still says "accepted"?

Why do some refunds take longer than others?

What if my IRS refund is taking longer than 21 days?
