Why am I unable to print the tax forms from my iMac this year? I've used Turbo Tax for several years with no problem. When will this be corrected?

I am not seeing the workaround for this.

Can someone please tell me how to print?

Apparently, Intuit has finally made SOME updates to the printing features of their wonky 2024 TurboTax product. I have noticed that while at least one of the 2 Methods below seemed to work for MOST people for a long time, now that Intuit has attempted to fix their Print and/or Save to PDF features, more people seem to report less luck with the following 2 Methods, which is a confusing outcome.

Anyway, an attempt at these two Methods is worth a try! (Try the 1st one first, then move to the 2nd if the 1st one does not work for you.)

The first Method has been posted by bpayseno and others since January:

Method 1 posted By bpayseno:

Work-around until Intuit fixes the print function.

1)  Use the "Save to PDF" option in the "File" menu of the desktop program and save a copy of your returns to location you can easily find on your computer.

2)  Open the PDF of your returns in your PDF reader program (acrobat, Preview, etc.) and use that program to print to your local printer.

^ That solution seems to have worked for most people, at least up until the time that Intuit most recently updated their Print and Save to PDF features.

Method 2 posted by maukro (me):

If Method 1 doesn't work for you, then try this more cumbersome workaround, which I originally posted in late-January, and which did work for most people for quite a long while.

Here's how I eventually got my 2024 Tax Return to print (Mac Desktop with TurboTax Desktop Version, HP printer)...

1) With TurboTax open on my desktop and on the Save For Your Records tab ...

2) I clicked on "File" from the TurboTax menu in the top menu bar ...

3) Then I chose "Preview" at the bottom of the "File" dropdown menu ...

4) Upon doing that, a new Preview window opened up.

5) Ensure that "2024 Federal Tax Return" is checked on the left hand side of the new window.

6) Choose which 2024 Tax Return forms you'd like to print. (I stuck with the default labeled "Recommended forms & worksheets.")

7) Click on the blue "Preview" button in the lower right of that same window.

8. Another new window will open up -- this one, at least on my computer, is a very tiny version of my entire 2024 Federal Tax Return.

9) Put your cursor over the tiny preview window (ie, over your mini-tax return). A small 4-item menu will appear (if it's not already there).

10) Click on the little icon to the left of the download arrow. (The download arrow on the far right of that 4-item menu did not function properly for me. It would not download the preview.) The icon you should click on looks like an ink bottle in front of a square piece of paper.

11) Now, a new window will open up in the "Preview" app. In my case, the new document that opened up had a strange document name with six letters and numbers followed by "-Unknown.pdf." I changed the document's name to my own choosing prior to taking the next step so that I could find my file after I saved it.

12) Now, from the Preview menu in the top menu bar, Click on "File."

13) Click on "Print" at the bottom of that "File" menu.

14) You will now be able to Save your TurboTax return as a PDF ... and/or ... you will be able to Print your TurboTax return.

15) Phew. That's a lot of work, TurboTax!

Why am I unable to print the tax forms from my iMac this year? I've used Turbo Tax for several years with no problem. When will this be corrected?

Thank you @maukro, your method 2 worked for me.

I had the same problem as everyone else in the thread - clicked either "print required forms" or "print returns" button on "save for your records" screen, got the dialog box with the back-and-forth blue progress bar, and the spinning beach ball, then after a few seconds the "pop" sound and dialog disappears.  Every time.

MacBook Pro 13" 2017, MacOS Ventura 13.6.6.  TurboTax 2024 Desktop Premier, up to date.

I tried all the dumb suggestions in the community like cold-booting the machine etc.  Plenty of available disk, and memory while TT is running.  It's very obviously a software bug in TT24 on the MacOS platform.

I've been using TT Desktop for years on this same computer and have never had this problem.

Oh and TurboTax support?  Forgetaboutit.  I called the 800 number and got a live human.  I told her print forms wasn't working on Mac.  She didn't ask for more information.  I asked if there is an email address or website through which I could open a support ticket.  The answer was no.  She said she'd create a ticket for me, and transfer me to someone who might know an email address.  Then she went silent but kept the line open.  After a few minutes I finally hung up.  Right after that I got an email saying my TurboTax case was closed.  AWESOME support experience!  šŸ‘

Thanks for posting the workaround solution.

Cheers,

RPSCO

Thank you, Maukro.  We appreciate the step by step work-around.

Why am I unable to print the tax forms from my iMac this year? I've used Turbo Tax for several years with no problem. When will this be corrected?

Same problem .. not able to print returns from TurboTax Desktop for the MAC.

I have a MAC Desktop running the Ventura 13.7.4 and Turbo Tax 2024 desktop (latest update Mar.15 2025).

In my Turbo Tax Desktop software I hit the 'Print Returns' function ('File' tab; 'Preview' section; ) and experienced the same ... 'spinning beach ball' ... a pop .. then nothing prints.

I did follow the advice from someone in this thread (thank you) .. after the 'pop' and nothing printing .. go to the MAC menu bar (top left) hit the 'File' then 'Save as PDF' ... and I was able save as a PDF then print the PDF (all 66 pages)  !!

Catina, I don't understand how that is a workaround solution.

Very frustrated with turbotax this year as this is the third big problem I've been chasing down answers online trying to fix.

Don't think I'll be using TT again next year.

March 16, 2024 Having read that Turbotax had released a fix to the printing problem I opened Turbotax and updated it to the latest release. I went to the Print and Archive Center screen in Mac Turbotax. Clicking on Print Returns got the usual moving bar and spinning ball cursor for a minute then the beep and back to Turbotax without anything being printed or seeing any of the usual print menus. I would conclude selecting the Print Returns button and having it go nowhere as the problem remains unfixed. This button has worked in prior versions of TurboTax going back multiple decades.

I am unable to print with my mac.  The print function is not sending to my HP printer to have the ability to print as PDF or print.  I have used the options provided but nothing works.  This is a real issue.  I am a 30 year turbo tax user and have never experienced this issue.

My experience this morning, after updating TurboTax:

Method 1 does not work

maukro's Method 2 does work (thanks, @maukro !)

The application also crashed shortly after saving the PDF
