Yes you can view the forms but just the same way by downloading the pdf. No I am not an employee. Just been volunteering here for years. I would sure try to go back to the Desktop program. You can transfer from online to Desktop or visa versa.
Don't know about your other issues. Self employment ins and SE 401K do show up on your tax return. Where are you expecting to see them?
There are Jump to links but you have to know the right search term to enter. they can be tricky. Like what couldn't you find? Like for self employed retirement...
Type in "self-employed retirement". Clicking on "Jump to self-employed retirement" it should take you directly to the Self-Employed Retirement Plans screen.
For Health Ins.......
Self Employed health Insurance does not go directly on Schedule C so it will not reduce your Net Profit or self employment tax.
If your health ins exceeds your net self-employment income it gets split. An amount equal to your net self-employment income goes on Form 1040 Schedule 1 line 17 (to 1040 line 10) and the remainder gets added in to medical expenses on Schedule A.
You can contribute to a 401K up to the amount of your Net Profit reduced by 1/2 of the SE tax OR to the max contribution allowed for a 401k whichever is Less. It should be on Schedule 1 line 16.
You can't use cd/download unless you pay for your operating system too (Windows/Linux)
Short story is that turbo tax doesn't accommodate Linux users for cd/download. They also don't like to give people who know what they're doing the ability to make sure their return is correct.
In a prior year, i input my 1098-T exactly as it was on the form, but was flagged by the info returns matching, because turbo tax assumes all tuition paid is by the student. Mine was paid by the gi bill. It lied to the IRS and said that i paid that tuition. Granted i should've sifted though all of the pages at the end to make sure it was right. Now, that's why i want to see what it's doing now, before submitting or paying.
Turbo tax has a history of deception, which is why the government is suing them over their "free free free" commercials.
Thanks for chatting with me on this issue. It seems like Intuit should be able to fix the forms view so that it works like the desktop, for customers willing to pay in advance.
The input issue is this: I am a partner in a partnership. I do not receive W-2 income or Form W-2. I receive a Schedule K-1 which has all of the associated income and deductions listed where required on Schedule K-1. Schedule K-1 is attached to the partnership's tax return (Form 1065) which is reported to the IRS. Like 1099s, the IRS "matches" the Schedule K-1 info to each partner's Form 1040. In Turbo Tax, the "K-1" information is entered in the K-1 (Partnership) input area. Most of the information, when entered, ends up where it belongs on the form 1040. But these items, which can be substantial for some taxpayers like me (health insurance premiums and pre-tax retirement plan contributions) do not end up on the return after we enter the numbers on the K-1 screens. That's strange design. I cannot think of a good reason for the software be developed that way for just a few items of deduction. And even if there is an explanation, there is no direct link/jump to from the K-1 input area to the "other location" where Turbo Tax wants us to input this information. Instead, we have to hunt for it. The search tool did not work (I tried with Live Help and they couldn't figure it out either).
So Turbo Tax (if you are reading), please try to fix this or let users like know that's it is not possible and I will move on.
Thank you very much.
I know I am repeating myself now but, the problem referred to above in my last message, is that while in the online version it is incredibly tedious to troubleshoot and figure out if the result on the return is correct EVEN AFTER PAYING because there is no forms view. You need to go through all of the steps as though you are filing, and then print/save PDF to your desktop, and then go hunting through (in my case) over 200 pages of forms and statements. Would be much easier to have a menu of forms.
I hope someone at Intuit/Turbo Tax reads this and responds. It would be very helpful to know the reasoning and if this can be fixed.
Here is an old note I have For K-1 Health Insurance. Hope it helps
You will come across the entry screen when you enter the K-1 or if you already entered the K-1......
This amount is entered on the K-1. Return to this K-1 and follow these steps to enter the health insurance premiums:
- Click on the Federal taxes tab
- Click on Wages and Income
- Scroll down to Business Investments and Estate/Trust Income
- Schedules K-1 Click Start or Revisit
- Schedules K-1 or Q screen, Do you want to Review - click Yes
- Tell Us About Your Schedules K-1 screen, click Update by 1065 or 1120S Form
- Click Edit by your K-1
- Click through the screens until you see Other Situations or the Describe this Partnership screen
- Check the box for "I personally paid health insurance..." - Continue
- Enter the amounts requested for this K-1
VolvoGirl, thank you. That's what I normally do and did this year, but the data does not go to the tax return. You need to go out of the K-1 area and separately find the input. That doesn't make logical sense, especially since the numbers are on Schedule K-1 and also there is a place in the K-1 input area to input these numbers. But thank you for trying to help.
Good luck. Maybe you can buy a cheap laptop Windows or Mac to run the Desktop program. Or know someone who might let you use their computer. The CD has both os on it. They both use and can read the same .tax2021 files. And since you used Online the last couple years you probably know to download and save both the .tax and pdf files to your computer.
