Allot of what you asked in response falls under the category of none ya business. I know what I paid for additionally.
@xmasbaby0 - Maybe you misunderstood my point so let me break it down for you in simple terms. It is virtually impossible for TurboTax software to be able to transmit electronic returns without feedback from the software system on the other end aka IRS. Without the ability to do so would render it impossible for any Tax filling software to update its software modules for new tax codes or updates to tax codes. I never said that the Audit Defense was related to tax returns being not processed or delayed in processing. I mentioned Audit Defense as an example of the feedback loop between the tax preparation software and the IRS. Additionally TurboTax must have the ability to know how many returns transmitted via its software are successfully processed.

At the start of the year, the IRS had 7 million returns from the 2019 season to process. Why? Because the IRS was essentially shut down for a good portion of 2020 when they would have processed these returns.
They're apparently down the final 300K. They expect this to take 2 months more.
THEN, they will get to 2020 returns that are flagged for manual review (6-7 million of them). I would expect this to take another 4-5 months (realistically).
If your tax return has that "Your return is still being processed" message - it means your return was flagged for manual review (this is NOT an audit). Realistically there's nothing you can do at all. The IRS will pay you 3% - and that's fine if you were going to save the money anyway, but if you're in credit card debt, you might be paying 20% interest on that money. So kind of a **bleep**ty situation for millions of Americans.
@kas123 - The IRS commissioner's report never said that they are working on 2019 returns and when they are finished they will work on the 2020 backlog. The IRS is working on processing returns and distributing various economic stimulus at different processing centers. There are many returns that were flagged for manual review that have processed to completion. Stop gas lighting an already volatile situation.

@xmasbaby0 -Stop the lies about Turbo Tax does not receive any information after you file your return. You sell Audit defense and I am quite sure you receive information about which returns were successfully processed and those that were not.
The only feedback TurboTax receives is the accept or reject from the IRS.
The IRS is prohibited by privacy laws from giving taxpayer information to anyone other than the taxpayer without written authorization form that taxpayer.
Audit defense is provided by a TurboTax partner "TaxAudit.com", not TurboTax.

All e-file software must follow exact data format rules provided by the IRS called schemas, otherwise the IRS e-file computer could not read what was sent by the software.
Every IRS form has a schema. Anytime there is a form change the IRS must produce a new schema with the change. All tax software companies must program their software using the new schema and then submit it to the IRS for testing and approval before it can be released to the public. That process usually takes about 2-3 months after a tax law change.
@macuser_22- If the only status TT is informed of is Accept or Reject, how is TurboTax able to inform a user that there tax return has been flagged for Auditing? I am quite sure the IRS does not audit rejected returns.
Really, then TurboTax testing processes, or automated build and integration must be flawed because a lot of 2020 returns were flagged for manual review due to the Stimulus credit miscalculation.

TurboTax cannot tell you that you have been "flagged" for auditing. Only a letter form the IRS can tell you that. All TurboTax can do is make a wild guess based on past publicly available IRS audit statistics if what you are claiming is statistically prone to audit.

Since the stimulus is based on the 2020 tax return, all TurboTax can do is calculate how much stimulus you qualify for based on you 2020 tax information, then it asks how much of that you already received and subtracts that from the total. If you answer that you have not received it and then the IRS records say that you have, the IRS will say you miscalculate it.
That happened to a lot of taxpayers who had not received the 2nd stimulus, but the IRS had mailed it - they filed prior to getting the mail. Also many said that they did not receive the stimulus but they actually did because it was garnished because of a tax refund offset levied against them (that is still receiving the stimulus - to just went to pay their debt.) Some did not receive it because it was simply lost in the mail but the IRS counts that as sent.
Exactly what happened to us. We did not know that we had been stimulated ($13). It was deposited in an old bank account that we still have but rarely use. Has hung our refund up for 3 months now. IRS sent letter that said they are now processing and we should have a direct deposit in 4-6 weeks.
