Once the IRS accepts your return only they can provide you with the status of your tax refund or why it may be delayed. Most refunds are received within 21 days from the time a return has been accepted (received). However, some returns take longer than others. It's possible your return may require additional review and take longer to process. For more information, please see What if my IRS refund is taking longer than 21 days?
Let me see about that math ... the IRS did not start processing returns until 1/24 and if your return had EIC/CTC on them they didn't start processing until 2/15 so you have been in processing either 33 days or 16 days which is not almost 2 months in my book. That said the IRS can take as long as they want to process a return and all you can do is wait and check the IRS site every so often. https://www.irs.gov/refunds
Thank you for your reply. It hasn't been almost 2 months, just 42 days. I E-filed, and my return was accepted 01/20/22, 42 days ago. The IRS states that you should contact them if it has been more than 21 days since you filed, 21 days, not 21 business days. I've tried contacting them but can't get past the call prompter to speak to someone.
@rbrown0248 Please visit the link below for IRS contact information. You may want to try calling early in the morning or later in the day in an effort to reach a representative, as the call volume is pretty heavy right now.
How do I contact the Internal Revenue Service (IRS)? - Intuit
When I call the 800-829-1040 IRS number there is no way to bypass the call prompter making it impossible to speak to someone. Tried numerous times. Anyone know of another number to reach someone?
You may try calling your local IRS office and see if you can get any assistance that way.
I visited the IRS in person. They showed definitively that my refund had been sent to SBTPG, a company Turbo Tax works with to process funds taken out of your account to pay fees. The IRS sent my funds to them on February 9 and there's still no record of it. I hope you have better luck.
For questions about your refund, please reach out to Santa Barbara Tax Products Group as they are the service provider of Pay with Refund. You can contact SBTPG toll-free at 1-877-908-7228 or go to their secure website.
Do you think I haven't done that? I've emailed them many times and stayed on hold with them for hours to no avail. Also, do you realize how infuriating it is when you cut and paste these same replies to people?
You're using a shady company and are remaining massively unaccountable for your association with them.
Same. Mines been held since 1/24/22. How can TurboTax say it’s correct yet IRS says it isn’t? My tax return being held that long?? I’m not a business nor did I itemize?? Arrrggg
Check TT … if it says the IRS accepted the return for processing then they did … how long it will take to process and approve your refund is something only the IRS can answer: https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/efile-status-lookup/
Checking the IRS site … no record found can be shown from time to time even if you enter everything correctly and this is normal. I will also be this way if you try unsuccessfully too many times in a row … then you are locked out for a day.
Sometimes people get confused by the “summary” given by TurboTax and use the wrong amount for the federal refund. Make sure you are only using the federal refund amount, and not an amount that combined your federal and state refunds.
Your federal refund amount is on line 35a of your Form 1040

Also check your account on the IRS site for possibly more information on the delay:

After 'horrendous' year for cash-strapped IRS, taxpayers can expect more delayed refunds (yahoo.com)
I did everything correctly. I had checked “Where’s my Refund” entered just the Federal amount and it said still processing. I then received a letter from IRS stating they needed to take 60 days to figure stuff out. After 60 days I received another letter saying they needed an additional 60 days.
