NOOOO ... never amend a return that has not been fully processed. Wait for the original refund. Only amend the return if you have something to change and only after the original return has fully processed.

Also, understand that the IRS is woefully backlogged... if you paper filed, assume a good 6 months from filing until they process.

I filed an extension to form 1040 on April 11, 2025 and received confirmation back that it was accepted. Just received notice that my return is late. Need copy of ext.
