Save (*.tax2025) option (Tax Tools - Tools) is missing. Cant save online progress on computer

Oh, I thought I posted that above.  Guess not.  Here......

There is a new way to move and continue your Online return in the Desktop program. Have you downloaded and installed the Desktop program?

Then to continue in the desktop version see this…….

In the Desktop program try to OPEN your return. Do not click "Start a New Return." Go up to File-Open and click on "Continue From TurboTax Online."

Save (*.tax2025) option (Tax Tools - Tools) is missing. Cant save online progress on computer

I have the same issue,  I just filed an extension, and then I have edited or added few more things. But I no longer can save it to computer.  I intend to eventually switch to desktop version with Windows 11.  The windows 11 requirement is quite bogus also! I can run AI tools with no issues on Windows 10, but  Turbo Tax requirement of Windows 11 is not acceptable!   Further the online version is quite inflexible and lacking of lot things! Cannot see my schedule A, E, D etc.. !   Regardless,  I need to save it to my computer please show me a way or update Turbo Tax online software to provide that option!

To save your 2025 .tax file to your computer, follow these steps in TurboTax online:

  1. Click Tools on the left side menu, then Tax tools.
  2. On the Tools Center pop-up, click Save your 2025 return to your computer

The file will appear in your downloads folder with the name taxreturn and a Type of TurboTax 2025 Document.  If you use TurboTax Desktop for your 2026 return, there would be no need to download it now.  You could simply wait until next season and after you install Desktop for 2026 on your computer, you will be able to import your 2025 tax file from you online account.

Thanks for your response. But just like other have indicated, this option is no longer there in the pop up anymore. It was some point.  May be disappeared after I filed for an extension.

Are you using TurboTax Online, @kdilip2000 ?    If so, you can get back to the Tax Tools menu, when you sign in, scroll to the bottom, down by where it says Your tax returns and documents and click on Add a State.    But you are not really adding a state; it just unlocks the return, so you can get to the Print Center and Tax Tools.

Thanks again. I have retail purchased version, that wasn't able to install on my windows 10 machine, so I started doing taxes on online, activated with my key.   I have another laptop with Windows 11, that I want to cut over to the desktop version.   Anyways,  I am not able to see the option in Tax Tools to add another state.  The reply to message I don't the see option of attaching a screen shot, otherwise would have attached it.  Thanks again.
