Well, a follow-up comment would be the following:

Read it again closely:

...do they say you did not file it?

.......OR...did you owe them $$ and they are really saying you did not "pay" them the balance due $$ that were on the tax file that you sent (and apparently was accepted) ???

I checked my Turbo Tax E file status said both Fed and St. are accepted. 

But I received a notice from CA St. saying 

"This notice a request for your 2020 CA income tax return. We checked our records and did not locate your valid tax return." 

"We received information that you filed your 2020 Fed income tax return with the IRS using a Ca address. This information indicates that you may have a CA filing requirement for 2020"

@gbgb11 since this is from 2020, is the 'accept' documentation you have from 2020 or 2021?
