This is Not a normal tax year what with the virus and then the stimulus payments, the IRS is far behind in processing tax returns.  Whether you use TurboTax, another software program, a CPA or other paid tax professional or you complete the federal tax return yourself and mail it to the IRS, there is good odds it will be delayed.

See this IRS website for the status of the IRS - https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/irs-operations-during-covid-19-mission-critical-functions-continue

I filed my taxes on April 4 with turbo tax. They were accepted by IRS on the same day. It is now May 13 and I have received nothing about my taxes by mail or anything. When I look it up on irs.gov it says your return is still processing. This is affecting me getting my stimulus check also. I'm about to lose my car and everything. There is no one to contact about this situation. What can I do???

Unfortunately, the IRS is the only one that knows the status of your return, and they have temporarily suspended the processing of paper-filed and manually reviewed tax returns.  You will need to contact them when they resume operations which will hopefully be soon.   Electronic returns are being processed and it is the paper returns and those being reviewed (yours) that are on hold.   If your return is ''still being processed'' and shows Topic 152, they are reviewing something on your return which has to be done manually.

IRS live telephone assistance is currently unavailable due to COVID-19. Normal operations will resume when possible. Tax help is available 24 hours a day on IRS.gov.  The IRS website offers a variety of online tools to help taxpayers answer common tax questions. For example, taxpayers can search the Interactive Tax AssistantTax TopicsFrequently Asked Questions, and Tax Trails to get answers to common questions. Those who have already filed can check their refund status by visiting IRS.gov/Refunds.

The stimulus payment is separate payment.   Stimulus payments will be based on information from your most recent tax filings, either 2019, or 2018 if you haven't filed this season yet. But, the amount paid to you now will be reconciled on next year’s tax return based on your current 2020 situation.

See if you are eligible for an Economic Impact Payment.

If you are eligible, use our guide to figure out which IRS tool you should use to get your payment.

If you are not able to work during this time, you are eligible to receive both state and federal unemployment payments.  You can file for both through your state's unemployment office.

Is anyone still waiting for their tax returns?

1. We submitted our taxes electronically.

2. We submitted in March.

3. Every time I try to call the IRS number, it just takes me through the automated menu. Is there a way to get an agent?

Thanks.

There are going to be very long wait times when calling the IRS this week since the due date for filing a tax return with a tax payment is July 15.

Call the IRS: 1-800-829-1040 hours 7 AM - 7 PM local time Monday-Friday
When calling the IRS do NOT choose the first option re: "Refund", or it will send you to an automated phone line.
So after first choosing your language, then do NOT choose Option 1 (refund info). Choose option 2 for "personal income tax" instead.
Then press 1 for "form, tax history, or payment".
Then press 3 "for all other questions."
Then press 2 "for all other questions."
- When it asks you to enter your SSN or EIN to access your account information, don't enter anything.
- After it asks twice, you will get another menu.

Press 2 for personal or individual tax questions.
Then press 4 for all other inquiries
It should then transfer you to an agent.

It's been 31 days for me too. Has anyone gotten a straight answer from the IRS of when it will be processed. And what's the steps to getting through to someone at the IRS. What options do you select?

With the IRS filing delay and backlog this tax season due to COVID closing the offices and leaving the IRS with very few employees working for the past year, the IRS has not stated how long it will take to deposit tax refunds. Your tax refund may be deposited in your bank account before the IRS has a chance to update your information on the Where's My Refund website.

Please click IRS Operations During COVID-19: Mission-critical functions continue to learn more.

TurboTax does not receive updates from the IRS once they have accepted your return. The IRS issues most refunds in about 21 days, although some returns take more time to review.

To find out where your refund is, first check your e-file status. If it's been processed and accepted, you can begin to track your refund at the IRS Where's My Refund? site.  You'll need your Social Security number or ITIN, filing status, and the exact amount of your refund to check your status. The IRS will issue your refund when your return is approved.

Mine was accepted 30 days ago and still says processing also. All the IRS phone lines give you an automated system which STILL tells me it's being processed...

This is ridiculous  and now they are issuing more stimulus checks which will slow down the irs even more you can't get a live person now

Same here. I finally was able to talk to real person at IRS. He said they are pulling and reviewing more than usual this year because of the option to claim the stimulus money that some did not receive, they are making sure people are not double dipping in other words on previous stimulus money. It's frustrating as heck.
