Simply put the 2020 return on extension and let the IRS process the 2019 return to get the bigger stimulus payment.
Reprint a 2019 return if you need to mail it in.
$0 AGI did not work for me..trust me..so John is not wrong!
All I can say is that its being done wrong, again go backwards through all of the posts here on this subject and you will find at least 2 dozen people who had it work... you have to change it at the end of the process where your about to e file ...and its the AGI for 2019 your changing and it must be changed for both the husband and wife if its a joint filing. It worked when done properly, for over 20 people here since February.
If you read other posts..peoples 2019 taxes are not processed because of the IRS so as a result the AGI and $0 some times will not work! Because the IRS shows no taxes filed...trust me I actually called up the IRS and spoke with someone at the IRS and he told me I had to send a paper copy no matter what.. I said why 0 agi is not working..irs said because no record is on file etc
Hello,
You said the IRS (Joshua) told you to change it to 'didn't file return'. Do you remember how you did that? I'm having the same issues with my 2019 taxes not being processed and every time I call they tell me they are 'backlogged'. I owed money and set up a payment plan and every month I make my payments and it lets me put tax year 2019 but yet it doesn't show my 2019 taxes being processed. I just tried the 0 for the AGI (praying it works) but if that don't work, I would like to try the 'didn't file return' if you could tell me how you did it?
IRS still has not processed my 2019 returns that I paper filed in February 2020. This is ridiculous can't get in touch with them.. im thinking they actually lost them!
I also did mine in February 2020 and they just processed it a couple weeks ago so there's still hope for you.
Its concerning because do not know how they are counting, meaning randomly, in order ..doesn't make sense its been 14 months..thats a long time!
The IRS is experiencing major delays due to the effects of the pandemic and many 2019 tax returns have not yet been processed. Below is an excerpt from the IRS's website:
"COVID-19 Mail Processing Delays
It’s taking us longer to process mailed documents including:
We are processing all mail in the order we received it.
Do not file a second tax return or call the IRS".
I was told by a IRS agent they were backed up 4-6 months not 14 months?
It has definitely been over a year for many.
What about people waiting for there stimulus checks? If the IRS doesn't process the returns no stimulus payments for many including myself....if people need to wait till next year when we file again that's ridiculous...
@DC79 The IRS is opening returns from last July and processing payment from returns filed last March. There is a delay from filing to opening to processing to payment. Filing your 2020 return, it will include missed stimulus payments and qualify you for the new stimulus.
Sometimes the IRS will file an SFR, a substitute for return. That AGI would be what the IRS has on file. The IRS will create a return on your behalf, missing any deductions and credits, and file it for you. When they receive an actual return, they will replace it - if timely filed. In that case, a zero AGI would not work.
Fwiw, one more for whom putting in $0 worked, after having been rejected with the correct AGI.
All I have to say is, and what hasn't been mentioned is this...
I sent in my return in July and check was cashed. In August I received a request for my 1095-A or whatever it is called again (The Healthcare.gov form) and I sent that back to them. Zero response since the. Usually no response from the IRS is a good thing.
My transcript shows "No tax return filed" and code 610 "payment with return", so it definitely hasn't been processed. Earlier I did the 0 trick and filed my 2020 a couple of months ago, but here is the kicker.
I am in a LOW INCOME COMMUNITY and I received 1,000 from the SBA last year, but I am not eligible for the Targeted Advance under the EIDL program of the additional 9,000 dollars. The SBA have sent me the form to fill out and a form 4506-T as well, which is prefilled by them so they can access my 2019 tax return. They will only approve my case if they can get my 2019 tax return. There is also the 5,000 supplemental grant that I am eligible for, but it is TIME restricted, as in, I have to apply for my 9,000 EIDL soon. Well, if I do that and send the 4506-T back and fill it out, then I am 100% going to get denied.
Yes, that's right, I have about 1, maybe 2 months MAX to have a 2019 tax return processed or I lose 14,000 dollars that the SBA should pay me, all because the IRS has no record of my 2019 and to get the 14,000 the IRS needs to have my 2019 on record!!!!!
So there you go people. For me, I am about to lose a "refund" of about 14,000 and the SBA are not reversing anything that does not have the 2019, even though it's the IRS fault. So yeah.....
I am starting to think about some legal action of some sort, because that's not a small amount of money to go "POOF" because the IRS didn't processed my return in 8 months, and the SBA as well are refusing to give me what I am eligible for because they won't go by anything other than the IRS filed returns in their system.
I swear, I am giving it 2 more weeks of sitting here unable to fill out my invite to the SBA Targeted EIDL application, and then I'm calling senators, etc.
