Ok. How much is on line 30? How much did you actually get in 2020 and 2021 for the first 2 payments? How many people are listed on your return? Married + children under 17.
They might have increased your income so you went over the max to qualify for the Recovery rebate credit. Or they took off one or more of your dependents.
You might have reported the Stimulus payments you got in the wrong boxes so it gave you the wrong credit on line 30. Or reported the wrong amounts.
married and all 4 kids under 17 (eldest is 😎
i received $3,800 in 2020 (as of yet, i have only received one stimulus check)
So you should have had 4,200 on line 30? You have to ask the IRS exactly why they changed it.
Hi,
I'm experiencing the same issue. I got the same response as far as the refund goes. My dollar amount is $1200 less than TT said it would be. While this is only my second year using TT, last year.. no issues. Same info nothings changed. Cant get through to anyone to explain the reason.
@sailfish Are you married? Did you have 1200 on 1040 line 30? That could be for the second Stimulus payment. Did you get it after you filed?
Yes, I am married. I do have 1200 on line 30. The second stimulus payment came before I filed.
Did you see the screen with 2 boxes to enter the Stimulus payments you got? Did you put the right amount in the right boxes including the second 1200 in box 2? Turbo Tax thought you didn't get the second 1200 so it tried to give it to you again.
im sti confused...
like i said TT has always matched what i receive. this year off by 2.5K...
stimulus aside.. (lets say i did enter the $3800 right, or wrong) how could that make my TT be off by $2.5K??
that is my question, well, one of them
thanks
p
Hi,
As far as I know, I entered the correct amount of stimulus in the boxes. That said, if it's supposed to be non taxable income or considered "stimulus", why would it be deducted from my federal return. I've never in 25 years of filing, received such little in return.
Please Advise

Look at your tax return Form 1040 Line 30. If Line 30 is blank or has 0 then your stimulus payments or the Recovery Rebate Credit had no affect on your tax return.
Look at the rest of the tax return to see if there are any discrepancies or if something does not look correct.
Your taxable income, deductions and adjustment to income are all on Lines 1 thru 14 with the total on Line 15. Your tax liability is on Line 24 and your tax payments are on Line 33
Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the screen. Click on Tools. Click on View Tax Summary. Click on Preview my 1040 on the left side of the screen.
As I previously stated, line 30 has 1200. Listen I'm no tax expert, and you can tell me look at any line you'd like. I use TT to avoid exactly this. What am I looking at? Thought that's what TT does.
What I'm looking for is an answer and a solution to the issue. And why I'm getting clipped exactly $1200

Everyone should review their tax return before it is filed, using a tax preparation program or not.
The $1200 on Line 30 indicates that you did not receive the second stimulus for both you and your spouse.
Did you enter a 0 in the second box?
Or it could also mean that one of you did not receive the first stimulus payment of $1200 which would be in the first box. Did you enter $1200 in the first box?
If the $1200 is correct that is included in your federal tax refund or it would have reduced the amount of federal taxes owed.
Second box?
Line 30 is one box, are you referring to a different line?
1200 is written in the only box on line 30. What other boxes or lines are you referring to.
When you filled out your return there should have been a screen with 2 boxes for each round. You had to enter the amounts you actually got in the right box or it would think you didn't get one of him.

Referring the boxes in the Federal Review section of the program where you were asked about the stimulus payments you received.
Enter stimulus in the Search box located in the upper right of the program screen. Click on Jump to stimulus
