Incorrect direct deposit information for payment

Hello,

My direct deposit information on my 2019 return was incorrect. Since the IRS has yet to withdraw my tax payment, I double checked the information and it was incorrect. How do I correct this mistake so the IRS and state can withdraw my tax payment?

Incorrect direct deposit information for payment

You mean direct debit from your bank account for the taxes owed.

Go to this IRS website for information -https://www.irs.gov/payments/pay-taxes-by-electronic-funds-withdrawal

  • Once your return is accepted, information pertaining to your payment, such as account information, payment date, or amount, cannot be changed. If changes are needed, the only option is to cancel the payment and choose another payment method.
  • Call IRS e-file Payment Services 24/7 at 1-888-353-4537 to inquire about or cancel your payment, but please wait 7 to 10 days after your return was accepted before calling.
  • Cancellation requests must be received no later than 11:59 p.m. ET two business days prior to the scheduled payment date.

Once your payment is cancelled you can use the IRS payment website with Direct Pay to pay the federal taxes owed - https://www.irs.gov/payments

For the state payment you will need to access your state's tax authority website for how to cancel the payment and pay by Direct Debit for the state taxes owed.

Incorrect direct deposit information for payment

I assume you mean your direct debit information for the IRS to debit your account for payment.

You can use the voucher that TurboTax can print to mail a check to the IRS or download a blank voucher form from the IRS and complete it and mail it with a check: https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f1040v.pdf

Or you can use IRS direct pay to have the funds debited from your correct bank account: https://www.irs.gov/payments/direct-pay

Incorrect direct deposit information for payment

Agreed ... since the payment will not be completed due to the incorrect information you need to make the payment ASAP ... changes cannot be completed thru the TT system after filing.  Expect the IRS to mail you a letter telling you of the failed debit.

So either mail in a payment or  use the IRS direct payment site on their website  www.IRS.gov/payment
