In the past I have been able to have TurboTax go out to Edward Jones and retrieve the investment data needed for my 1040 form. How do I do that?

Am using Turbotax Premier and still can't import. I have checked and I have the latest update.

I get a screen which asks if I'm not a robot, which  I check that I'm not, then the next screen has an eight panel photo of something like a bicycle or streetlights, and I am to check the boxes that have those things in them, then it goes back to the sign in screen where I put in my name and password again, then it says "name and password are not recognized" or something similar

None of the above-mentioned or linked suggestions work. I am not sure of the point of calling in again and spending another 1.5 hours on the phone with TT, esp. when it doesn't appear that anyone at TT has actually tried this.

The issue could be with special characters or two-factor authentication.  Please try this solution, which worked for another user and was given to them by an Edward Jones representative.

The following are further troubleshooting steps, if needed:

  • Sign in to your brokerage account and confirm you have enabled third-party access to your account information
  • Change your password for your online brokerage account, then sign back in to TurboTax and start the import process again using your new password
  • Check with your brokerage to see if you need to be enrolled in online access in order to import
  • When signing in to your brokerage account from TurboTax, try entering two extra characters at the end of the password, then delete the extra characters and press enter

FINALLY SOLVED

I fired up TT this morning and tried to import the things from EJ, but this time I didn't get an error; it just did nothing. Weird. So I went over to EJ and tried to log in and found that my account had been temporarily suspended! I was pretty aggravated at this point.

I called up EJ to have them unlock my account and then asked them why it was locked. The fellow said that it could have been because a third party unsuccessfully tried to access my account too many times. I told him it was most likely me trying to get TT to import my stuff, and he said he'd heard of issues this year.

He asked if my password had special characters (it did, a bunch) and, if so, to remove them and to have the length of the password be under 20 characters. I changed the password, then logged out and in of EJ just to be sure it worked.

I then went back into TT and tried the new EJ account credentials AND I did the "add two characters, then delete the two characters" trick @DaraLO mentioned. THIS WORKED. (It may have worked without the two character dance, but I'm not going to go back and try it.)

So, after weeks of frustration, it seems to me that the two biggest errors on TT's part are:

  • The error message that is given is misleading. The issue is not that our EJ usernames or passwords are wrong.
  • TT needs to properly handle passwords that are arbitrarily long and have special characters. It's clear to me that TT's code only expected letters and numbers.

Thanks to all of you who persevered in figuring this out. TT might owe us all a nice thank-you gift for this nonsense.

I have tried all of the numerous suggestions on here and nothing works for me. I spent several hours yesterday on the phone with Edward Jones (they can find nothing wrong on their end) and then TT. I have eliminated special characters in my password, I have tried different browsers, etc. etc. The final straw was the TT specialist telling me the only thing I can do is manually enter all the information. Ughh. But I finally relented and did it. I'm very frustrated with TT,

I have battled the same issues as everybody else on here trying to get forms from Edward Jones this year. I finally gave up installed a completely different browser on my laptop and logged into TT and Edward Jones and it finally succeeded in downloading correctly. I was using Google chrome. I was successful with Windows edge.

Interesting...this is opposite from all previous posts...Edge didn't work but Chrome did.

Windows pc for me, using Edge for first time.

to all the suggestions: I'm using a PC, I use Edge, I tried Edge, Chrome, Firefox etc nothing worked. I finally entered my info myself, have filed my return and already got my refund. I don't know if I'll use Turbotax next year after this hassle.

Likewise. That was the only reason I purchased TT deluxe to start with.
