I just e-filed my amended return to the federal government & NY, for which the amount I owe to the federal government went down and my state refund went up. TurboTax told me to send in a 1040-V payment voucher, even though I provided by routing number when I initially filed my returns & when I filed the amended return. Am I just supposed to send the payment voucher without a check or am I supposed to send a check? If the latter, how do I know the IRS won't take money out of my account after I paid via check?
When you set up a payment in TurboTax, in addition to asking you for your bank account, it also asks for a date you would like the payment to come out. There is also a statement that prints in your return to show that a payment was set up.
You should review your return and see if the payment was set up before mailing your voucher. The voucher would need to be mailed out with your check.
