How long does it take to see a deposit for child support arrears? My child's father is past due nearly $1200 and pays by state DCS . Will his return bring him current?

The IRS can and will hold the money for as long as 6 months before releasing it to the child support agency.   Contact them for more information on a timeline.

Hello, He stated his income tax returns were taken. He said he received the letter from the IRS and it had my name on it that the money was paid to me. I never received anything. This was like the 3rd week in June of this year. So I am just wondering if they said they took it to give to me, why haven't I received it yet. And I need to know should I be calling Michigan Child Support to ask for assistance. This month makes 6 months.

He didn't file married,.

He just called to check me because he said the letter from the IRS said the return was taken and the funds of 1800.00 was given to Macomb County Friend of the court to me, it had my name on it. Just don't get how they took it from him and why it takes so long to get sent to me. This is arrears that we're talking about too. My son is 23 as of 11/2021 and he owes me 75,000.00 so it shouldn't be sent to the state of michigan because I wasn't on Medicaid assistance.

LOL - I am and haven't been on AID and whatever he has NEVER paid me I WANT IT ALL. PERIOD! 

His settlement and whatever he gets will come to me. I raised my son on my OWN his entire life and now this man wants to grow up and work and do things he should have been doing oh well. It's going to rain over here and I'm patiently waiting for MINES- we went through the courts 23 years ago - he ran from his responsibility.  You have a great day and ONLY God can JUDGE me.

This is EXACTLY what I'm going through this year 2022- He filed in Feb received letter in March the payment posted in April but didn't apply until the end of May and only the amount for the state arrears was applied and Im still waiting on my portion of arrears as the custodial parent and they can't give me a time frame and he filed Single not jointly..it's So frustrating we're in June now Do you remember how long it took for your payment in 2019 ??? Any info would be helpful at this point because google isn't specific to my situation and the case Managers at the child support office are less informed then me at this point-HELP! Timeframe on  Offset arrears payment for the custodial parent- ANYONE???

Im on the same boat. They told me irs is holding the full arrears for 6 months. This is ridiculous why are they holding it all. There was a payment agreement for back pay (arrears)  and everything was being paid so why did they have to do that and why are they holding it for so long. Is there really nothing one can do to get the irs to give the money already? And is it going to be released in ones bank account like the refund or in the child support card? Why won't they give us any answers. All they told me is since its withheld that they can't talk to me about it. Why not? If they are going to give me the money eventually?

this seems to be a legal issue not an income tax question so talk to a lawyer .

FYI ... IRS SOP is to hold a refund for at least 6 months before releasing it to a non IRS debt like child support to allow the taxpayer to amend the return and/or the injured current spouse to file a form 8379 to recoup some or all of the held funds.

No matter what state you live in the bottom line is nobody gives a **bleep** about the kids rights. My caseworker and the child support call center is always telling me about the exs rights. The caseworkerd monitor and supposedly enforce arrears but they don't do squat because without arrears they will be out of a job. I don't understand why I had to go to court waste my time get a court order with the judge ordering people ignores that court order child support gives him all kinds of time with no consequence. We need to get somebody like John Taffer from bar rescue to go and confront these dead people dushbags. The next person who calls us Bitches who only care about money it's going to get their teeth knocked down your throat. Stay and raise our kids but that takes money!!

I'm not sure what "this" is for sure because this is an old thread with many posts. If you are asking about Child Support, I would contact your state child support office.
