I did not get the amount I was told I would

I am very frustrated with Turbo Tax this year. Every year I have been able to file with no issues, until this year. I was not only charged over $100 to use it, even though I was told it was only $44, but I also have not received my full refund. I got the full state refund, but only partial of my federal.

And before I get the "check these links you may have made an error" message, I already did.

I was rejected 2 times and I went back and re-filed and fixed it so there are no discrepancies. I already checked for my stimulus too, everything in my taxes is correct.

Another weird thing is I cannot find my taxes through the IRS despite their website saying it only takes 24hrs after you file for it to become visible. I want to know where my money is.

I have seen multiple discussions claiming the same thing, you can bet I'll never come back to Turbo Tax especially if I don't get this issue fixed.

The EXACT same thing is happening to me and I don’t know why. Everything is correct and I got $2000 less than what TurboTax shows. The IRS website also cannot locate my information!

turbotax/Intuit can't upgrade you refund nor make your status on the IRS website appear.

In order for the IRS to process a refund, they would have had to receive and process your return.  Did you Get Your IRS transcript?  If so, you could see your information there.

You should receive a letter from the IRS telling you why your refund amount was changed.  The most common reasons so far this season are:

  1. You did not enter that you received the stimulus payment in TurboTax, so your return said you were getting the money back, but the IRS caught it and said, no, you already received it.
    • If you look at line 30 of your 1040 and it shows an amount there, and you already received the $1,400 per person last year when they sent out the stimulus payments, this is likely the reason.
    • If you do not remember getting the stimulus payments you can go back through your back records to double check.  Many people either didn't realize they did receive it or they forgot, but end up seeing it when they go back through their records.
    • The Recovery Rebate is ONLY for those who did not get the Third Stimulus Payment
  2. You did not report the full amount of your Advanced Payments for the Child Tax Credit that you already received.  Again, the IRS will catch this and make the changes to your return.
    • This would show on line 28 of your return. If you have 2 kids and you see $6,000 on line 28 then the IRS records show that you already received $3,000 in Advanced Child Tax Payments, but you entered that you did not receive any.
    • Again, if you do not remember getting these payments you can go back through your bank records from July-December.

A couple other reasons include

  1. You owed back taxes, child support, student loans or something else that caused your refund to be Offset to pay some of the past due debt. You should have received a letter if this was the case.
  2. Something was not reported correctly on your return and the IRS recalculated your return causing you not to have a refund. This could include things such as missing income or inaccurately reported income (ex. you entered $5,500 for your W2 box 1 instead of $15,500)

You should look for a letter from the IRS and if you do not have one or do not receive one, you would need to call the IRS at 800-829-1040 as no one else would have the answer as to why your refund was reduced.

I did not get the amount I was told I would

As I stated in my message, I did double check that I did not receive my full stimulus. I only received 600 of the 1400 I was supposed to get. I checked that twice to be sure.
Also, I don’t have kids. I file single and independent every year. I have no dependents or anything.
I also don’t have any active student loans or anything else that could be offset. Like I said I had to check everything twice because my taxes were rejected twice.
I would not be so upset if this was just a mistake, I’ve loved turbo tax every year up until this year. All of a sudden I had to pay over $100 for it plus now half my refund is missing. And it isn’t just me either. I’m just disappointed and frustrated I’ll have to find a new place to file my taxes through if I can’t trust turbo tax to give me the refund they stated I would. If it was the IRS changing something that’s understandable, but they’re not.
