How long after the bank rejects my refund will it take the IRS to issue me a paper check

I had a DD date of 2/22/21, but the account number was missing the last two numbers so the bank said they sent the refund back the same day. WMR has not updated at all and it is now 3/22/21 and I haven't received anything. I was worried this would affect the deposit of my third stimulus, which it did. My stimulus, according to WMP was supposed to be DD on 3/17/21, but seeing as the account number was wrong it did not. The WMP (stimulus) website updated as of today and told me that a paper check for the stimulus is set to be sent on 3-29-21. So seems as though I will get my stimulus before my tax return. It is going on week 5 that I am waiting on my tax refund with no updated information from WMR. I spoke to someone at the IRS and they told me I need to wait at least 5 weeks from the scheduled DD date of 2-22-21 to call the IRS to put on a trace. I am worried about putting a trace on though, because I heard it can set back the whole process and make it take even longer.

My direct deposit date for my tax refund was also 2/22/21.  I still have not received the paper check as of today, 3/23.  I am trying to be patient but it's hard.  Let me know when you finally receive yours and I will let you know when I receive mine.

The process usually takes approximately four to six weeks, however this is a challenging year. The IRS is required to reconcile the tax returns and stimulus payments as well as working on the third stimulus payments due to the American Rescue Plan.  With the tax season and the changes taking place all at once, a delay should be expected. They want to be diligent and are required to follow any protocols they have been issued.  They will make any adjustments and additional payments as they complete the process.

Putting a trace on the payment could delay the process, you should give it a little more time this year.

I filed on 2/4 and it was accepted by the IRS on 2/12.  Unfortunately, mine was to be direct deposited but I had the wrong account number so it was returned by the bank to IRS on 2/19.  35 days later it still has not arrived.  When I called IRS they said 6-8 weeks.  From what date I don't know!

I just checked my 2020 transcript and I have a new refund issue date of 4-1-2021. I am hoping that means that is the date they are sending out my paper check? WMR hasn't been working for me even when I initially filed my return so I am not even going to bother checking it anymore. My advice would be to make an IRS.GOV account and check your transcript for any updated information. It's the only place I've gotten any answers. I even got a real person on the phone at the IRS last week (by pure luck!) and they couldn't tell me anything I didn't already know.

Thank you for your response.  I had viewed my 2020 transcript, but the wrong one.  My also confirms my refund was cancelled and will be reissued 4/1/2021.  Hopefully, we will receive our refund soon.

My refund was rejected by my bank on feb. 24 2021 it's been over a month I verified with my bank that my refund was rejected and sent back to the irs the same day by my bank how long till I get a paper check pmt tool stills says it was direct deposited on feb 24 2021 no updates my stimulis check was rejected to but got that in 11 days any advice?

Here is an update.   I got my paper check on Monday 3/29.   It took a little over a month from when they first tried to deposit my check on 2/26 to receiving it.  The irs website has never changed and still references the 2/26 direct deposit so I wouldn’t go by that site.

It can take 4-6 weeks to receive your check via mail. If your original check was returned to the IRS for some reason, it will take longer for the second check to be issued because they have to ensure the first check was not cashed.

Thank you, i found out my money was sent back after the bank refunded it and they told me about 4-5 weeks i should receive a check, that was on march 22nd. My stimulus updated from being deposited to mailed out on 3/29/21. Thank you all for your help!

Jessekb my advice is to make an IRS.GOV account and check your 2020 account transcript. That is the only thing that will be accurate and up to date with any information. The WMR tool has not been working correctly for many people, so I don't even bother with it anymore. After about 4-5 weeks I had an updated re-issue date for my tax return/paper check.
