How do I add my Direct Deposit?

If you have not e-filed your tax return yet, please follow the instructions below, on how to edit your direct deposit information:

Please sign-in to your TurboTax Online Account and then:

Select "Take me to my return" Once you are in your return, select the file tab in the upper right-hand section of the TurboTax screen

Once you have selected the file tab you will then see where you can edit your direct deposit information.

The bank information for a direct deposit is entered when you are in the File section of the program on Step 2 if you have a tax refund.

To change your direct deposit information before filing, please follow the instructions below:
1. Open your return in TurboTax.
2. Click on “Take me to my return” if applicable.
3. Go to the “File” section in the left-hand menu.
4. Next to Step 2: Your refund info select “Revisit”.  (Stop here if you're just checking.)
5. Choose your desired refund method and select Continue.

@Footfoot23 - once you file you can not change your direct deposit information.  THat is an IRS rule to protect you against fraud.  If the account is closed, the direct deposit will be return by the Bank to the IRS and the IRS will mail a check to the address listed on the return,

I’m using the MacOS desktop application for 2025. When I get to the “How do you want your federal refund” page, if I try to select Direct Deposit, either for the account I used last year, or for a new account, it keeps bringing me back to the “How do you want your federal refund page”. The only way to move past this page is to select the “mail me a check” option. 

Is there a workaround or bugfix coming?

Sounds like something got stuck. You can try these things:

• Log Out Completely: Before doing anything else, click Sign Out in the TurboTax menu.
• Clear Cache and Cookies: This removes old, "corrupted" data that might be confusing the website.
• Use an Incognito (Private) Window: This is the most effective "quick fix" because it launches the browser without any saved history or extensions (like AdBlockers) that often interfere with tax forms.
• Check Pop-up Blockers: TurboTax often opens forms (like the 1099 PDF) or payment windows in a separate pop-up. Look at the right side of your address bar for a small icon with a "red X"—click it and select "Always allow pop-ups from Intuit."
• Restart the Browser: Close all open windows of your browser entirely and then reopen it.

Most TurboTax errors happen because the browser is trying to use an old "session" from a previous visit. By clearing the cache or using Incognito mode, you force the browser to establish a brand-new, secure connection with the Intuit servers.
